At the risk of not sounding like a team player....

I personally don't care for weekly sales meetings. I hear they are good for comraderie, knowing about the office listings, pushing your own haves and wants, etc.... I find them to be a waste of time though and more often then not, they take away an hour or 2-3 with the following tour that I could be doing much more productive things.

As a Realtor with a usually higher level of production, I am amazed at how much time agents socialize in the office or at meetings. When the market is tough like it is, you'd think everyone would be digging in, locking themselves in their office to make calls, send emails or regular mail to their sphere or out in the field meeting new people to add to their sphere. I add about 65 people a day on average to my sphere of influence using social networking. I would probably add 2-5 a day if I spent as much time as agents in my office BS-ing in the copy room and going on tours and free lunches offered by lenders and title people.

Do you all feel that socializing in the office is out of hand or that most agents just don't know how to go about effectively using their time they have? I am all for a good quality of life and I think I'm pretty balanced with work, family, owning and promoting our other business, Exquisite Home Tending and taking care of myself with exercise and personal ME time once in awhile. How do you all deal with the freedom of schedule and are you PRO sales meeting or CON?

Jason, I do feel that too many company meetings end up being a social function for those who attend.  Ok social networking is good, but I agree that some of those functions are a huge waste of time.  My REMAX office has a monthly sales meeting usually sponsered by a lender or new home builder with some good information being introduced.  However, we usually get that same info via emails and other promotions.  Sometimes we get important company info face to face or "you heard it here first" and that's a good thing.  In my office agents are friendly, a bit of a familly atmosphere, but we know why we're here, and thats to work our business not to spend time in the lunch room or near the water cooler.
