Being an alien has its advantages. After I decided to call Atlanta my home I started to get involved with the German School, German Consulate and Goethe Institute to stay connected with my roots.
A couple of month ago the German Consular threw a party at his residence in honor of the opening of the US office of Nurnberg Messe. I am a true believer in networking, introducing, connecting, welcoming and sharing with others, I guess that’s why people like to invite me :-). I introduced myself to a group of journalists, one was from my hometown and we even discovered that we went to the same school……
Last week I got a call from my hometown journalist. The newspaper was planning to release a one page article about small business owners around the world, the title “Life after Lehmann” a 1 year snapshot of how small business owners have dealt with the crisis after the collapse of Lehmann Brothers. Of course I said yes, and was featured today.
The first call I got was from my parents, they got several calls from some friends and neighbors about their daughter being in the News. It was a total surprise for them and I could hear how proud they were …
So how does it matter that an article is published in Germany and my business is in Atlanta? One of my target markets is the German speaking community, this is something to share with this niche. What is key? Pretty much similar rules as for blogging, something people can relate to, triggering an emotional response….
