I have been a customer of Market Leader since 2006. I was one of the first customers to sign up for the now popular Growth Leader product. I have spoken to hundreds of potential customers on behalf of Growth Leader.

My personal growth leader website is www.servingcypress.com

I also own another link called www.yourhomeinhouston.com

While checking out my SEO progression I noticed that Growth Leader created a website called: www.youhomeSinhouston

They basically took my link and added an S to the word home. Should I be irratated that I'm competing with this site? Was it too close to my own link to copy? I know they haven't done anything wrong, but it seems they could have used a little discretion when deciding to create a website name. You should also know that both sites are DIRECTLY in my market - Cypress!

How would this make you feel?

UDATE: Check out what happens when you Google: yourhomesinhouston!! LOL, It actually tries to correct you and says.. DID YOU MEAN yourhomeinhouston! LMAO!

Greg - This sucks ... they really are our competition, not our friends!

Watch carefully and see what happens!

It's almost like amazon.com and aamzon.com--someone buying the second domain to capitalize off of your success. I wouldn't be too thrilled, particularly because the hand that was feeding is also the hand that was taking away. Maybe it is just the nature of business--cheesy business.

I have mixed feelings.  It would be easy for them to come up with the name and not notice yours.  But, since you are a client, a little diligence should be expected.   Is your second site active or just a link you own?

Hi Greg,

I read it this way.  www.youhomeSINhouston  Does that help?  :)

It would get me very upset.  If I were you I would contact them and find out whether they suggested the domain name or whether the agent found you and chose it for herself.  Either way, I would be angry.

I do not think that it was GrowthLeader...it might have been but I figure that it's more likely the agent that is on that site.

Growthleader asks the agent to come up with a URL that they would like and then Growthleader folks purchase it.  They will, if the agent is clueless, come up with a URL to use.  Ultimately, Growthleader owns the URL but they may not have been the one that came up with the idea to use that particular URL.

Hi Greg!  I'm with Bruce!  Even if the agent came up with that, it was probably a result of GL showing that agent, in order to sell them, how successful you are with them.  And, they allowed this agent to select this domain name.  I'd be it to be tied as well...

Haaaaaaa! There is irony in that. Makes me want to peek at the squatters section on domains (LOL). Google tries to correct you, eh? I wonder how many other people are going to say, "oh yeah, I meant that one," and click to you (LMAO).

Greg, That's harsh!  It is kind of like walmartdotcom.com, it may generate some traffic, but just try buying a big screen TV there.  Remember, not that it will make you feel any better, but imitation is the highest form on flattery. I guess next you will be finding a new, more loyal company to work with.

Describing it as tacky is very nice of you - why don't you call it a stab in the back of a loyal customer?

If both sites cover Cypress, I would be more concerned about whether or not the second Growth Leader site is going to 'steal' traffic from yours. My guess is that a lot of the keywords will be the same.

I'm sorry but even though they didn't do anything legally wrong, it is still wrong. They are just capitalizing on your efforts.

Greg,

It's a crappy thing to do on their part. The ball is in your court.

What a crappy company to go and do that to you.  They have their terms copyrighted, why should they be allowed to feed off someone else's terms?

Just what Donna said!  I had to change my Growth Leader site's domain name a week after it went live because it had the words "Just Listed" in it and they found out AFTER that those words are copyrighted by them and they can't allow us to use them in the domain.  If I were you, I'd call and complain!  I've been waiting 2+ weeks for my Connecticut Growth Leader site to be up and running...only took them 1 day with my Massachusetts one.  I'm getting annoyed.

Sincerely,

Kathleen

Okay, I'll bite - leesa what the heck is swaggerjacked? LOL.

Go MafiaWars on them Nino!  And if it was because the other agent wanted that url, go smack them upside the head too for good measure.   Don't mess with the Nino.  I thought all of Texas knew that!

I called Market Leader today and spoke to Will. He says.. "this shouldn't affect your marketing one bit." and that the coincidence is purely coincidental.
