Submitting your website:One of the first steps in the "right"direction to increase your website's traffic is to make sure your website is being found and crawled by the major search engines. Be wary of companies that offer to submit your website to 50 or 100+ search engines for $59.95 (or something like that) - many times they do not even submit your website to search engines that really matter in the United States, and they use what are called "robots" to submit your domain to many search engines (in this case, robots are programs that automatically submit your domain to websites - but the most important websites do not allow this manner of submission - this is why you sometimes have to put in a verification code and hit submit at the bottom of the page).

Here is a list of some of the most important places to start submitting your URL (website address):

Google

Yahoo

MSN

DMOZ - this one you want to be very careful to make sure you identify your correct category and FOLLOW THE SUBMISSION GUIDELINES to the word - if you get rejected it can be months before they consider you again, and if you submit many times in a short period they can ban you - I highly recommend having an experienced webmaster that has done this before help you with this.

Real Estate website's will not be found by the general public if they are not indexed and cached in the major search engines directories.  I hope this helped

What if your website has a feature that says they will submit it to the search engines?

I don't really understand - why is DMOZ so important?

Chris - many times this will only submit it to one or two - and generally never to DMOZ.org - so resubmitting it once does not count as spam and will not hurt you - but be careful with DMOZ

Charles - DMOZ.org is the free public open directory project that acts as a source to 100's of search engines - you cannot pay to get into it, but it is a very powerful inbound link and resource for search engines - Michael
