The $8,000 federal tax credit for first-time home buyers will expire on December 1st. However to qualify for the tax credit, the transaction must be closed no later than November 30th. If you are a first-time home buyer, what do you need to do to take advantage of this tax credit.
1. Find a qualified agent.
2. Know before you go. Have an idea of what type of property you would like. Start your search here.
3. Get your credit report in order.
4. Compile your paperwork. Documents include verification of employment, two most recent pay check stubs, two most recent bank statements, copies of the last two W2 forms received from your employer, copies of any asset statements - retirement accounts, stocks, bond, or mutual funds, and a copy of your social security card.
