Fear Not!

Tonight, a cancer survivor and former chicken-catcher stood side-by-side on a Hollywood stage and awaited the results of a vote that would change one of their lives forever.  Kevin Skinner and Barbara Padilla have vastly different backgrounds, but one very important commonality.  When an opportunity presented itself, they jumped at it.

The easy route is to simply lament your lot in life and do nothing.  The problem, of course, with this strategy is that no possible good can come from it.  Without taking a chance, neither Kevin nor Barbara would have been on that stage.  Without taking a chance, you will never have the opportunity to realize your full potential.

Do you want more business?

Are you afraid to knock on doors?  Are you hesitant to write a newsletter?  Are you reluctant to post to your blog?  Why?  What's the worst that can happen?  Someone might tell you to get the heck off of their property or toss your hard work into the garbage or chastise you for ending a sentence with a prepostion.  So what?  These aren't the people you are interested in dealing with anyway.  Besides, it's not like you have to stand in front of millions of Americans and smile while someone known as "The Hoff" makes fun of your background.

Stepping out of your comfort zone is the only way to big successes.  This is true whether you are trying to start a company, to buy a home or to win America's Got Talent.  You may fail at times, but this will only make the rewards that much sweeter.  Remember, if you don't take a chance, you'll never be on that stage.

Good Luck!

Many people don't consider stepping out of their comfort zone to be much fun.  However, man don't realize what a great experience it can be because they never try.

I missed the show tonight. It was because I've got too much business...today. (I'm in the middle of 6 contracts and all needed paperwork done asap, not to mention meeting an appraiser to open a house, and then showing houses.) I was afraid of blogging in the beginning, but not anymore. I see what it can do for us.

Christine - It is certainly called a comfort zone for a reason.  That being said, I can't think of a single person who achieved their dreams without effort.

Jen - Sounds like you are doing really well. Congratutations!  BTW, I like the new photo.

Many people fear rejection or failure and it causes them to simply give up or not give it their all. This is an obvious mistake as we must put our self on the line to achieve our goals.

JL- I completely agree. If we don't have the courage to reach for our goals, no one else is going to do it for us.

Now why didn't I think to write this post!  I watched the finale and was amazed, like you, of what has been overcome and accomplished by all of those finalists.  I reblogged, thanks for that option, and thanks for stipping by my blog this morning.

Janna - You make a good point about the rest of the finalists.  Few had any real training or background of privledge.  Each overcame quite a bit to even make it to the audition let alone to the final evening.  Yet, they were all there because they took a chance.  I suspect a couple of record labels will take a chance on some of the other contestants.

Oh so true. You do need to get out of your comfort zone, meet people, and market yourself. That does not mean 'sell all the time', but make the connections. Good stuff Erik. My family and I watch this show every season. This season had some really good talent.

Erik - Very inspiring.  I just went through this with the first webinar, I was so nervous I thought I might pass out.  Now, NEXT!  Bring it on!  There should be more challenges and life-expansions so we can fulfill our destinies.  Thank you for a great article.

John - This was the first time I've watched the show.  I was impressed by several of the acts.  I did wish Acrodunk had made it a little further.

Wendy - You and BB did a great job!  I enjoyed it and learned a lot.  Not sure that I really want to get into short sales and in my market it isn't required.  But, I certainly feel more confident about approaching them from the buyer's side.

I agree. They were some high flyers! I was shocked to see them go. I'm really surprised that Gramma Lee made it so far.

It amazes me how much people do NOT step out of their comfort zone when they enter this field!  If you are coming into the biz I always suggest "do something that scares you at least once a day."  That's the only way someone can find their "niche".

Erik, great post and always something to take us to something new. Wherever we are on that ladder of evolution, we can always move up.
