What's missing? Here's a little mystery from a home inspection the other day. Actually it wasn't that mysterious because I knew what had caused the dirty spot. That little grimy patch is actually quite common to find on many homes, but more often it's on an older house.

What has caused this smudge is missing. So I'm wondering can anyone tell me what is missing from the house that made the spot.

Sorry there are no prizes, but you get to bask in the glory of your superior home inspection knowledge :D

James, the class has no clue and I have even less---so we are going to go with a buried gable vent.

There is a gap between the window casing and the siding which is allowing mosture to enter and causing moldy/mildew smudge. Kate with a Non-Inspector's guess

James, it looks as though something has been vented from under the facia board, but you said what caused it is missing , need to think about this...don't tell us too soon I'd like to figure this out.

Mr James,

I would suggest that you send to me a plane ticket, I will come out your way, walk that line, convert Chuckie into your second best friend, behind me, and I can hang with you for six weeks to six months. Deal?

Nutsy, feeling a party coming on

Charlie, You and the class would be right.

Kate, The smudge is actually from exfiltration.

Nick, As Charlie said it's from a covered gable vent.

Nutsy, Chuckie has been very busy lately eating because he sleeps all winter. Have you considered taking a long nap? My cousin Guido could arrange a big sleep just for you.

Kate, Nothing like a good bbq to get everyone in a party mood.

Mr James,

I hope you know that bats also soil houses, but they enter through open holes. I know lots about bats.

Kate, It is dirty air expelling from the home.

Nutsy, Is that because you're batty?
