The Marmalade District

A  stunning view of  Salt Lake City in Salt Lake County metro area can be seen from Capitol Hill where our state capital sits, modeled after our nations capital, and the Great Salt Lake shimmers miles to the west.

The Hill is home to many historic buildings. The western slope of the hill is called "Marmalade Hill Historic District | Utah.com", the streets are named after various fruits that are used in making marmalade. It is renowned for being a unique diverse neighborhood. The east slope descends sharply into City Creek Canyon. Over the small canyon is another Salt Lake City neighborhood called "the Avenues". DebbieAldrich

The Marmalade Historic District, Salt Lake City  borders are considered to be the intersection of Beck Street and Victory Road to the north (including the old Wasatch Springs public pool site), the Union Pacific Railroad tracks to the west (500 West), 300 North to the south and Columbus Street/Victory Road to the east. Homes

The "Marmalade District" has streets named after imported fruit trees and planted there such as apricot, quince and almond. The district is often considered among the most architecturally diverse in Utah  neighborhoods. An early example of diverse turn-of-the- styles such as a Russian-influenced LDS meeting house, Gothic Revival homes, Victorian mansions.

In July 1991, the Salt Lake Acting Company signed a management lease for the Marmalade Hill Center built in 1890, giving them control over the entire building, once an old LDS ward house.  It was the center of the community then and it is the center of the community today with it's eclectic and diverse off Broadway shows.  The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints sold the building to Salt Lake City in 1978 and until this point the building had been managed by the Utah Heritage Foundation.

Debbie, OH YA marmalade is one of my favorite things to have on toast, especially orange marmalade.

George, Orange Marmalade is one of mine too although I make a darn good strawberry jam, we don't grow oranges here, shucks.  Peach is the popular fruit here, we have many peach farms in Utah.

What a wonderful tour.  I only wish there were samples of the orange marmalade with it!

Awesome historical perspective.  I am ALWAYS in awe with the architecture of the Mormon Temples in Utah.  The one we have here is really cool too and it is really tucked away in the hills.
