This trend is world-wide. I've been reading about the hoarding of incandescent bulbs in Germany, where new laws are going into effect. Sometimes we have to be forced to do what is best for us, right?

Good one Kim, I replace mine as a blub burns out, most are switched now.

I'm trying to replace mine too as we go but I'm curious since I have track lighting what the smaller lights look like and if those are being replaced too. I'll have to wait and see. Thanks for the comments girls.

Like Debbie, I replace mine as they burn out. I horded a couple of costco sized packs. Funny thing is, I bought this house in 2002 and some of my original bulbs have NOT burned out yet. How crazy is that?!?!

Over the course of a year the saving can really add up.

Renee: You have some sturdy bulbs to have lasted that long, mine never do unless I've switched them out

Tom: I love savings and can't to start seeing the difference.

I know a guy who worked for GE that was given a test incandescent bulb about 20 years ago that he still uses. They could make them last forever if they wanted to, but then you would never have to buy another. The only problem I see with the new bulbs is that no one wants to take them to the hazardous waste center, and so all that mercury just ends up in the landfill. They save money, but I have a feeling we will have love canals all over the country in another 30 years from all that mercury being thrown away.

I have been using them too, but I thought they would last longer than they do.

Hi Kim, I am trying to bypass the flourescents and go directly to LED----they are WAY expensive but last almost forever and have a better light with no warm-up time. I see CFL's as just a transition bulb until LED's are more affordable.
