Great News For New Homeowners from Mission Grove Realty.

We all should know about the Do Not Call Registry and this should be your first step when moving and you have a new phone number.

What do you do in the meantime? your home is your castle...dont let them call

When you have purchased a new home, it is inevitable that you will receive a ton of solicitations and, until your number has been registered on the DNC registry (Could take months for the calls to stop) there is something simple...and fun to try. If you do this right away, it could save you much frustration and unwanted interruption at all hours of the day and night:

  1. Have your answering machine or access to your voice mail system near your computer (must have speakers).
  2. Visit this link for the "sit" sound file. Alan Carlton's SIT file
  3. Play the SIT file at the BEGINNING of your voice mail message.
  4. Wait 2 seconds and add your message.
  5. The SIT file must be heard at the Beginning of your message.
  6. The remainder of your message can be anything you desire.
  7. You are on your way to some added peace and quiet!

How does it work?

The SIT file is the sound you hear at the beginning of a "Disconnected Number" message from the phone company. Automated Solicitation systems (The majority of solicitation calls) are "trained" to recognize your answering machine, a live person or, a disconnected number. When these systems hear the SIT file, the system learns this as a bad number. The number called will sometime be re-called in a short period of time to verify the SIT file is still present. When the SIT is heard, the system is updated as being a bad number and will not usually be called again. Not only will they stop calling, the number wont be re-sold to other telemarketing companies.

The drawback: You must have the sound at the beginning of your message. Would you friends, family and those that you usually don't mind calling care about this? I would think not. They will probably want to do the same on their phones too! You can even tell them why in your message! Have fun with it and have peace in the thought that those calls will soon stop. A real drawback? Have fun with this one and let us know if it works for your situation.

Hvae a great day!

I love this idea! I usually just hang up when I hear the pause while the routing machine patches me into a telemarketer's booth.
