During this past Wordless Wednesday (see links #4 to #8 below), I promised everyone a slide show of three baby white pelicans and their mommy at the San Diego Wild Animal Park.

I had never seen baby pelicans before, not to mention being able to watch mommy regurgitate food for the little ones and then drip it into their little mouths. Although I spent almost four hours roaming the Wild Animal Park, I think a full hour was spent just watching these four pelicans. That could explain why I have 135 pictures of them. I have culled that number to the 19 best for the following slide show.

Hey, Wanda - I love baby anything, even baby snakes and spiders (just had to throw that in there for all my snake and spider friends - LOL). I was surprised to find baby pelicans this time of year, though. I think we all believe that baby anything (other than humans) are born in the spring, but as I've found out with pandas, giraffes, and elephants - and now pelicans - babies can be born at any time. Interestingly, all of the pandas that have been born at the San Diego Zoo have arrived within a five-week period from the first of August to the first of September. With babies arriving at any time, though, an annual pass to the Zoo and Wild Animal Park is a prerequisite for living in San Diego so that one can go on the spur of the moment whenever one is in the area, as I did here - the Wild Animal Park is about 45 miles from me.

Hey, Candice - Thanks.

Hey, Robert - You have to enter the code from slide.com into your blog using the HTML tab. It's not the easiest of processes, but the effect is well worth learning how, and with practice it becomes extremely easy. Many of us would love to see ActiveRain get an upgraded editor that would make it easier.

Lovely photos!  I will always remember my close encounter with a pelican.....on vacation with my parents and walking along a fishing pier when all of a sudden a big splash of something lands inches away from me.  I looked up and a pelican was sitting on top of a pole, feeling pounds lighter than he had moments before.  :o)
