Pumpkin Lunacy! It's that time of the year again when pumpkin farms,schaumburg illinois, the trees begin to turn and people say: I've never bowled with a pumpkin? Let's give it a go and google it! Well here you are for more factoids that you can never use again except near Halloween!

Preparation and Cleaning

When selecting pumpkins for carving, lighter colored ones carve easier, as they are softer. The downside is pumpkin farms,schaumburg illinois, they do not last as long.

Pick a pumpkin with a nice stem and a carvable face.

Apply a light coating of petroleum jelly on the cuts. It will seal the wound and the pumpkin will last longer. After carving, place the pumpkin in a cool, dark place. It will spoil quickly if left at room temperature and will attract fruit flies.

Did you know? You can usually revive shriveled pumpkins by soaking them in a bucket of water.

What a great post! I love it....thanks for sharing this information.

When I moved over to Northern Ireland in 1991 I couldn't believe that first of all, Halloween wasn't celebrated as much as here. I threw a party and it was the first for many many of my friends. But I thought it was so funny that they didn't have pumpkins. The turnip story is true. They carved out turnips and put a candle it to carry with them to a firework display. No door to door trick or treating. I suppose that might have had something to do with the two communities not co-existing peaceably?

PS I had my family send me over a tin of pumpkin puree to allow me to make a pumpkin pie (my fave) and when I served it, no one would eat it. They were all disappointed because they thought it would be like apple pie, with the pumpkin sliced, lol. I am happy to say I ate the entire pie myself!!!!

I am originally from England and Susan is right we do not have pumpkins, although I hear from my family that Halloween is getting more popular. I tried pumpkin pie that my mother-in-law made and so sorry to tell you but I did not like it either. But I do love Apple Pie :)
