That's what happens when we have a nation of 'nannies' that think a small group should regulate what the rest of the world is doing.  Sad.

I listened to the video and don't get why you think this is the end of free speech. They are talking about having some little button or icon so that when a consumer sees a tweet or reads a blog that endorses a product they can discern if it is an ad or not.

I mean when we advertise a listing we have to put our company name and principal broker on it (if you are not the principal broker). We already have rules for ads.  How is this different?  I mean you can't say the f word on network tv or radio.

What in that video indicates that there is an end to free speech?

My point Melina is this is just the beginning...I don't know..does everything we do in life have to be monitored..approved..endorsed and governed?

I disagree that this is the beginning. Letting a consumer know if someone was paid to endorse. Product in a blog is reasonable in my opinion. We are a nanny state because we have elected to be a litigious society. This has consequences and a bazillion rules is one of them.

I am not sure if this will happen but the government is on a dangerous trek toward control of everything!

I watched this yesterday, I love web pro news.

We do not need more gov't intervention.

If you are endorsing a product and being paid, then I have no problem in saying in the blog you are being paid.

oh no, not that great consumer protector the FTC.

this is the same organization that has failed so miserably in regards to regulation of creditors, and lenders in general.

can someone point out where they have been effective?

Let's see... we have a "Czar" in the FCC that thinks that Chavez using the government to squelch dissent was a good thing (Mark Llyod).  Why should I have trouble thinking that they want to control speech in other venues...

Midori

We are on very thin ice, if free speech on the Internet dies, free speech in the country is dead.

Good luck and success.

I see nothing wrong with what they are talking about.

The need for disclosure when someone is getting paid to promote an issue. seems a no brainer to me.

End of free speech?   I just don't see it.

And as for Johns #1 post, just unnecessary name calling.

It is NOT a free speech issue.

It's not political.

The guidelines are being updated to include new forms of communication. There are some changes in the law for advertisers.
