Real Estate Brokerage sink or swim?
Real Estate Brokerage in Charleston, SC is looking at the real issue -- are we going to sink or swim? Charleston,as well as probably every other city in the United States, is having to look at this same situation.
While I was watching the 2 South Carolina main college football teams play yesterday -- one mid day and the other last evening -- I started to think again about how much real estate brokerage and football teams are alike.
If a football team does not play together, they will lose. Football is
not a one player game --- neither is real estate brokerage. If you have one agent in your office who feels like the office will fail without them, I believe that this office will fail with them --- you see, I believe that a real estate brokerage has to be a team effort.
Boyd, my husband, often uses the word to TEAM to define what a real estate brokerage is all about ---
T --Together
E -- Each
A -- Accomplishes
M -- More
The challenge in today's economy is how do we get our TEAM together enough to teach and encourage them enough so that they feel as though they are a part of a TEAM and not just a licensee in a real estate brokerage.
With so many agents needing extra income and getting side jobs, it is nearly impossible to get the agents together as a group. Some have daytime jobs and others have night jobs -- others have weekend job.
Having always considered myself a "coach" -- not just a broker-in-charge, it distresses me that today, I'm not so sure of this title -- it hit me like a ton of bricks last night. I can still coach those who have not gotten other jobs --- but, those with others jobs are difficult to coach.
I believe that this is a serious problem --- when a broker has meetings, normally the same small group shows up for the meeting -- it seems like the others are at their other jobs.
Real estate professionals have to eat and provide for their families ---I do understand that. With the economy, real estate has been slow,
I have been watching other companies and see this as being a real issue for a lot of real estate brokerages
Are real estate brokerages going to sink or swim? I can tell you that our TEAM is swimming, but could I would like faster swimming. What do you think? What are you doing to keep your TEAM together? I would love your ideas.

Liz- I think every Broker in Charge struggles with this and even in the "good" times. The same people attend the office meetings and the training. I had tried to do a newsletter to my mentees and recruits. Some agent owners did read the newsletters, while others asked me months later to resend the newsletters as now they were ready to read them. It is a difficult situation and do not know if there is any one great answer. This thread will be interesting though.
