San Diego State UniversityMy owner is a Realtor with Century 21 Award in Mission ValleyPersonally I'm not a fan of Google Street View because I think it is an invasion of privacy. With that said, though, Google and San Diego State University recently announced that San Diego State is the first campus in the world to launch on Google Maps' Street View. Additionally, Legoland in Carlsbad is the first theme park to join the Street View club.

San Diego State UniversityStreet View provides 360-degree views of spaces that usually are only accessible to pedestrians. Apparently, a Google technician rode around the San Diego State campus on a full-sized tricycle outfitted with a camera and nine lenses. I will have to see if I can get one of those tricycles for myself.

Google spokeswoman Elaine Filadfo explained that they started with San Diego State because Google is based in California and San Diego State is "a very popular and scenic campus." I agree it's scenic, but I'm not sure what is considered popular. Certainly places like Michigan, Ohio States, Texas, and other universities are more popular on home football weekends -- LOL.

Google Street View, not so much of our town is on it. But I have had fun in a few places, including San Diego looking! I spent a summer living with a friend there when I was young, and had a wonderful time. I looked on the street, her parents are still there, but I couldn't see the house. Still, it was fun!

Hmmmm... I also don't like Street View -- there is something very invasive about seeing my car parked next to my office for all to see all the time. Fortunately my house is not visible because it's not directly on a street.  Campus tours make more sense, since they aren't anyone's personal space.

Jim - That is pretty interesting that they have took 360 photos of the entire campus.

I admit it. I  love Legos. Always gravitate towards them at the kids science fair. Would love to visit.

Jim,  I was amazed when I happened upon Google Street View.  But I agree it seems a bit over the top regarding the privacy side of things.

Hey, Jim. I just question if this is something that we really need. Thanks and take care, Jim

I have mixed feelings about Google Street View. It's great for getting an idea of the general character of a neighborhood. But I'm never sure I'm looking at the right house when I enter an address, and more often than not the quality of the photo makes the house look like crap anyway!

Cheers,

Robin

To quote you Jim, "It's only going to get worse", someday the cameras will be right out of our front doors watching as we leave and enter.

That pic of Zoey is the front of the one that Russel just put on his blog.  I can see she did not know that her rear was being photographed also.

Jim, I frankly don't like the idea.  I too feel it's an invasion of privacy.

You can do it. All cities in U.S.A. Street View:

Hey, Andrea - I looked at my childhood home and I think I saw someone in the window waving at me - LOL.

Hey, Shoshana - That's the part I don't like. Imagine the wackos that could track down a license plate number on a car parked in front of a real estate office, or a bank, or something. I just don't see a need for this.

Hey, Robert - Especially since SDSU is a very hilly campus. I haven't checked it out, but it might be interesting to see how they portrayed it and compare it to what it really is.

Hey, Dom - I think it's going to get worse before it gets better.

Hey, Rita - Come on down!

Hey, Janice - Legoland creates some of the most interesting sculptures out at their place, all out of legos.

Hey, Steve - Technology is awesome, but I still need some limits in my life. I'm not the most exhibitionistic person out there.

Hey, Jim - I think the crooks will be able to use it to much greater advantage than I can.

Hey, Robin - Have no fear, though. Virtual reality is on its way.

Hey, Jane - There is a small city somewhere out in the Midwest where they have 24/7 cameras watching every street in the city. I'm sure I wouldn't want to pick my nose there.

Hey, Carole - I always wonder why the privacy advocates don't speak out about this kind of stuff.
