I got a call today from an ABC Reporter from New York City who was referred to me by Chris Connelly of ABC.  Chris and I met during the filming of the 20/20 segment.  The reporter wanted to know if Staging today in a slower market as we are experiencing pretty much all over the U.S. - was as important as it was nearly 2 years ago when the segment was filmed.  Of course - I said - it is even MORE necessary.  She had already interviewed Barb Schwarz at length - about current trends and stats.  So even though the segment was filmed in 2005 its relevance is still powerful.

The 20/20 Segment that is scheduled to air next Friday, June 22nd will give the Staging industry great exposure!  When it originally ran in October 2005, it was a positive and high-energy look at what we do in our business - and 20/20 really captured how we use our creativity to transform spaces.  The overall segment was on the real estate industry and honestly not all parts of that were favorable - from how Realtors sell houses, to working with custom builders, challenging experiences some home sellers had, etc.  I did not agree with how some segments were portrayed, but I could not have been happier about the Staging segment.

I love this segment - not because I was privileged to be part of it due to my relationship with with the featured company, Stagedhomes.com and Barb Schwarz, but because the FUN of what we do shines through.  We don't have to come across as stodgy or corporate - we are CREATIVE - and the nature of what we do with sometimes not very much - is magic!

I hope you take the time to spread the word about this segment - remember ANY positive exposure for Staging is good for us all!

- Jennie

Thanks, Jennie. I am glad they are not just doing a rerun on this but sounds like a follow-up of sorts. I think because 20/20 is more serious news show than some of the morning news format can be at times, it will carry even more weight with consumers. I will spread the word. Thanks, again. Hey Todd,

If the segment is the same as it ran in 2005, they hit the realtors on commissions - and then John Stossel got hammered on the ABC site blog.  I hope they update that part - it was not accurate at all from my experience working with Realtors, AND being married to one.  The bottom line on the segment was at one point these 'experts' that wrote the book "Freakonomics" stated that all Realtors would be worth in the future was $500 commission.  Harsh.  I am hoping that they do update all the segments now that time has passed - and give the audience the "rest of the story" per se.

I saw this episode already but I am looking forward to the impact it will have on staging as a whole throughout the country.  More news means more work for everyone!  I think especially in a slower market houses need to stand apart from the competition.

Some just want to stir stuff up but there is no audience for you here.... Keep in mind ABC CHOSE the footage that was aired after taping HOURS of footage. The last person that posted just wanted to stir up junk and didn't bother to sign their name so their post is gone. The segment shows high energy and the fun we have with Staging (at least most of us do). Coverage for staging on prime time TV is a huge boost! Don't criticize...be happy. Thanks to all that have written above and enjoy the segment. Overall it was informative and educational for the audience and gives credibility to our profession. Jennie

I am happy that ABC did the segment and is showing it again, however I agree that the "we are ASP's" song and cheers were a little much.  In Barb's defense, she was selling HER company and HER books but at the end of the day... Any attention that Staging gets has to be good till we all are getting calls for more than we can do!

Hi Jennie,

I got an e-mail about this from a fellow stager in my area (I don't know her) I thought it was cool she found me and told me about the show, I didn't see the first one! Thanks for the heads up!

Thanks for the feedback....Craig, you made me chuckle.............................................................. I don't like "editing" the blog and to the person that wrote with no name I don't want the "wrath" either and did not post this to get roped into a debate. The segment is the first prime time exposure for Staging, ABC felt great in editing the segment the way they did, and I am proud of the story it tells. I actually DO dance during a happy staging job (to the radio or sometimes to our own songs we sing), I high-five my teammates, we have fun and I AM Professional. If I can't have fun and enjoy what I do what is the point? The segment represents our industry because it shows the positive changes with staging done in a few hours with no $$ spent on "stuff" AND the house sold. That is fabulous. I implore people to keep it positive as I am not going down "that road" about the segment. I was there when it was filmed, the crew was fun, we had 3 days of taping with them, and they loved what we did as Stagers and our energy. I was just giving a "heads-up" and sharing that ABC will add updated commentary for today's market conditions. Thanks!! Jennie
