Moose Monday - Bull Moose By the Fence in Red Lodge, Montana

Bull Moose in Red Lodge, Montana

Here is a Bull Moose which I photographed in Red Lodge, Montana in October 2008.  He was in a hurry but I am glad I was quick enough to snap the photo of him above.  This photo was cropped to get the picture for the new group on ActiveRain:  Moose Monday.  Isn't he a good looking bull moose from Red Lodge?

Debra,

I am glad you finally got to see this photo.  I wonder what was the reason you did not see him at first.   Thank you for the positive feedback.   I will have to come back after my trip to Yellowstone to check out your little moose (no matter how little, it can't be smaller than little buddy).

Charles,

He was actually more than 100 feet away.   It is the zoom capabilities of my digital camera that made him look much close than in reality.   You do not want to get too close to a moose.   They may be cute but they are wild animals.

Long time no see.  You ought to pop by and eat some delicious ice cream that's waiting for you. :)

Gerry, that is a good sized moose.  I do not think I would want to run into one on the highway going 55 miles per hour.  It is a stout looking animal.

I can remember one of my boys doing a paper on moose. I was intrigued by the "bell' the bit under its chin. What a lovely site this is!

Hi Gerry,  nice Moose.  Is there a way to tell how old it is?

Michael,

They may sound similar but a huge difference in size.  I happen to see a mouse last night but I did not run to my camera as I did for the moose.  Thanks for the comment.

Marc (deuxième fois),

I took several bites at it and I still can't get enough.  Careful! The moose might also be headed there for your ice cream!

I do not wish anyone running into him on a highway.  Thanks for dropping by to comment.

Janice,

When I first saw this bull moose, the "bell" part was what the most interesting part I watched dangle as he was running up a hill.  It sure was an interesting site.

Al and Peggy,

I will have to do some research to try and answer your question.   Perhaps I will ask a ranger in Yellowstone National Park today.

Cynthia,

Thank you for being the first to comment about my dad's visit.  It is also his first time in Montana and he loves Red Lodge.  I did spent some time showing him photos of the area and photos when my brother and nieces visited earlier this summer.  I can't believe fall is here.  I love it when I get that little girl in you start her day with a smile.  I am always happy to see you visit my blog and leave me comments.   :)

Wow, you must have a lot more moose than we have, I've only seen a moose three times in my whole life and once was at Glacier.

Kevin and Monica,

I have seen moose on 5 different occasions in the last year and a half (4 occurrences in Red Lodge and once in a prior visit to Yellowstone).   I think the odds of seeing moose are much bigger in Yellowstone.

Hi Gerry, I know your Dad is going to love his first visit to Yellowstone! Luckily he has a good guide, and you already know where all the neat spots are.  The park is so huge, are you going to stay over?  Love the photo of the Bull Moose, by the way, that is a great shot!

Gerry, your "moose spotting" looks to be a very big boy, but his rack doesn't look huge, maybe he's younger than his size suggests?  I don't know enough about moose, do they shed their antlers like deer? As for the "mouse spotting", hopefully he was NOT a very big boy...Nice to get to show your dad MT in the fall!

Mary,

You are coorect.  My dad did love his first visit and when I asked him what he liked the best about his two day visit of Yellowstone, he said without hesitation "Everything!".

We did stay over one night at a nice motel in West Yellowstone.  I am glad you like this moose photo.  Thank you for dropping by and I love your new profile photo.

Cheryl,

I did recently learn that the moose shed their antlers every year.  I will try and provide more info about the moose on my next Moose Monday post.   Thanks for the comments on this very big boy.   I enjoyed every minute of showing my dad some of the nice and beautiful features of Yellowstone park.

Cynthia,

One more day to spend with my dad in Red Lodge.   I know I will miss him as soon he returns to Montreal.   But, I am hoping to get to see him and my mom later this year for the holidays.

He mentioned he loved it more than Southern California (where I used to live) and Cuba where he and my mom go for vacation every year.
