My general rule of thumb is to never trust what a politician is saying even though it sounds like they are saying something that you agree with.

It seems like many  politicians can take a simple word and attach a very different meaning to it.

Harry Reid says  that paying your income taxes is voluntary?  Forget about the little detail that if you don't pay them that the IRS will use force to collect them or use force to put you in jail.  You see, "voluntary" in his dictionary means that you are allowed to fill out the forms yourself and send in your taxes in the mail.

I wonder if you rob a bank but allow the teller to fill up your bag while you're pointing a gun at them, is the bank voluntarily giving you their money?

Jan Helfeld has done a bunch of interviews over the years asking some pretty simple questions. He gets down to the basic principles on issues. It's interesting to see how many of those that he interviews get all flustered and angry.  I find it very entertaining.

Here's Harry Reid explaining how the US tax system is a voluntary system.  It makes you question everything else that comes out of his mouth.

Tim, Wesley Snipes is living proof that the voluntary system isn't so voluntary . But the fact is you can opt out of the system. It is not easy and can be very difficult. It also has consequences for you as a citizen. But it is voluntary. You just have to approach it 100 percent correctly

Tim...The only voluntary tax I am aware of is people who play the lottery...they are making a contribution to the states  budget, with hopes of a return...but at 10 million to one I don't like the odds of that voluntary tax either!

Charlie, I agree that it is voluntary but not in the way that Harry Reid considers it voluntary. It's a massive fraud what they have set up in order to be legal and technically fit under the Constitution. As the point in the video shows, the meanings of words are key to the system. Words don't necessarily mean what you think they do. The problem is that the whole system is corrupt. Even though some can prove what's really going on, it doesn't matter. The judges are going to rule against you in order to keep the system intact. Fear and intimidation is what they rely on for people to be obedient and send in their money. The more you dig into the tax system the more you get disgusted by the whole system. That's why I'd like to scrap the whole tax code and start over with something like the Fair Tax. I did what Aaron Russo did about 15 years ago. I set out on a journey to find out the truth about the tax system. He made a nice movie about what he found in Freedom to Fascism.

I saw two nuts and no bolts in that video Tim.  I'm for the fair tax also, but I steer clear of crazies on both sides of the isle.

Tammy,  I have found that many times the truth seems crazy but as you peel back the layers you find that what you once believed is what's actually crazy.  Nothing surprises me anymore.
