Help Build the Harvest House - September 26 - Shelton CT - Food Donations Needed

The Connecticut Valley United Way Corporate Volunteer Council is sponsoring its third Harvest House, a 400 square foot house of FOOD that will be built on the Shelton Riverwalk grounds on Saturday, September 26.  Shelton CT Harvest House United Way

The Corporate Volunteer Council is appealing to all local Shelton and Valley businesses as well as community groups to collect non-perishable food items for Harvest House.  Food should be brought to the Shelton Riverwalk on Saturday, September 26, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.  Please make sure all food items are unopened and within their expiration dates.

This event will be a Family Fun Day thanks to a partnership with Echo Hose Ambulance Service in Shelton.  Echo Hose is celebrating 60 years of community service with a Free Community Picnic and Highland Rovers Concert held from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.  All attendees are asked to bring along non-perishable food items for Harvest House.

The purpose of the Harvest House is to raise awareness of the large amount of hunger in the Valley.  Proceeds to benefits Valley Food Banks.

Schedule of Events

Thursday, Sept. 24 After work hours

CVC volunteers will begin erecting tent and pre-fabricated walls at Shelton's Downtown Riverwalk. 

Friday, Sept 25 During work hours

Limited food deliveries and volunteers accepted from CVC companies.  If you are interested in having your employees volunteer on Friday, please pre-arrange with Pat Tarasovic (926-9478)

Saturday, Sept. 26 9:00 am to 6:00 pm 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm

Food donations accepted.  Volunteers needed throughout the day to unload, sort, and stack food onto Harvest House walls.  Echo Hose Ambulance 60th Anniversary picnic and concert.  Volunteers needed to cook and serve hot dogs, and sell beer and wine. 

Sunday, Sept. 27  9:00 am to 6:00 pm

Public viewing. "Walk-in" food donations accepted.  Volunteers needed to monitor public viewing.

Monday, Sept. 28 Time TBD

Dedication Ceremony and distribution of food to Valley United Way agencies.  Food removed and walls dissembled.
