Monument, CO - Ten Great Things to do in and Around Monument, Part 8

Castlewood Canyon

Castlewood State Park

One of Colorado's State Parks is Castlewood Canyon. It's located just south of Franktown on Highway 83. And approximately 30 miles north of Monument, CO. Highway 83 out of Monument is a pleasant trip thru high plains pastures and rock formations with great Colorado scenery all the way.

The park has some many walking trails. It also offers, hiking, rock climbing, horseback riding, wildlife viewing and tons of places to take that perfect photograph.

The park is open everyday of the week, from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm. Daily park pass is $6.00.

Oh, and don't forget the picnic basket!

Colorado has so many, truly beautiful places...I miss living there! I heart Colorado and places like Castlewood Canyon!

Tim, it's a lot of fun and very beautiful, too.

Mara, you used to live here? And you've been to Castlewood Canyon State Park? Wow.

This one I have been to, (even did a wordless or speechless photo) it is GORGEOUS! We went near the 4th of July, after that HAILSTORM and several of the footbridges were washed out.  What a fabulous hike, though! Beauty at every turn, the river, the trees, the canyon...now I have to plan a fall hike before the color is GONE!

Oh, wow! You just gave me an idea for the 10th post. Fall Colors...I've got some fantastic photos from Independence Pass, and RMNP. Thanks...that'll be tonight. The 10 of 10 beens fun. Glad I did it, only sorry that it took me so long. I've got to brainstorm my next list. Any suggestions?

You were a brave soul to go on Independence in the fall!  Leadville/TwinLakes generally shuts down their side around Labor Day and doesn't re-open until Memorial Day.  When we lived there one year at Memorial Day the plows were still trying to clear about 8 ft of snow from the road...I love that country...=o) How about 10 great trails, 10 great ethnic restaurants, (there is a lot of diversity here, for the size city!) 10 local "heroes" or 10 "famous people"...

Great suggestions. Thanks! We went up to Aspen via Independence Pass on my birthday. It wasn't this year, but a couple of years ago. It was cold, but there wasn't any snow.
