new hampshire autumn  New Hampshire residents are preparing for an invasion of leaf peepers.

It is just starting... the days are still warm, but the nights are cool... The days are shorter and the smell of fall is in the air...

There is no way to stop the invasion.. the leaf peepers are getting ready to descend upon New Hampshire in record numbers.

This year the New Hampshire fall foliage is expected to be one of the most colorful in recent years due to the very wet spring and summer.

The invaders come to New Hampshire from far and wide... Massachusetts, Connecticut, Road Island, New York, New Jersey, Vermont and Canada... and beyond!

The peepers want to know when the leaves will reach peak and they click on the interactive map at the New Hampshire visitor's website to make sure they don't miss PEAK!

New Hampshire Autumn

New Hampshire is ready for the invasion of Leaf Peepers ... be sure to plan a trip to this beautiful state to see glorious panoply of colors.

THE LEAVES

The leaves had a wonderful frolic.
They danced to the wind's loud song.
They whirled, and they floated, and scampered.
They circled and flew along.

The moon saw the little leaves dancing.
Each looked like a small brown bird.
The man in the moon smiled and listened,
And this is the song he heard.

The North Wind is calling, is calling,
And we must whirl round and round,
And then, when our dancing is ended,
We'll make a warm quilt for the ground.

Joan, We head to Rhode Island for vacation on Thursday and I so hope we get to see some fall color.  I love where we live but we only have two seasons summer and January.  I miss the fall color.  Our leaves fall off in December but they just turn brown and fall.

Hi Marchel... I hope you get to see some of the color... it is still a little early in New Hampshire, but it won't be long now...  I grew up in Tulsa, OK and we got some color, but nothing like New Hampshire.

Hi Joan, There  is a natural magic in the air back east when the color begins to show the variations of yellow, amber, orange and red. I will miss it this year but I am there in spirit. Show more Joan, lots and lots of fall color posts. Many of us on the west coast crave the beauty of the fall since we see so very little.

Hi Joan!

I am so looking forward to my trip back "home" the first week of October.  The foliage is one reason I chose this week.  Hope for good weather and pretty leaves.

About 25 years ago my mom and dad won a trip to anywhere in the continental US.  They chose New England. They flew from TX, and rented a car.  The drove all over the northeast, and came back to tell me that before I moved back to Colorado, (my goal at the time), I really needed to visit NH, VT, ME, etc...It must have really been beautiful, because the really didn't want me to take their grandbabies to CO which is far closer than New England! Enjoy the "touri" (pronounced tour-eye") they keep our states healthy!

Cheryl ~  I think you made a good choice in locating in Colorado springs.... that was my second choice after San Francisco (where I lived for over 25 years).... New Hampshire is a beautiful state... I hope you get to visit.. you will be glad you did...New Hampshire welcomes all "Touri"!

The one thing i really miss about the midwest(except of course for my friends) is the changing of the seasons and the beautiful fall colors. I lived in Des Moine and Kansas City. Missouri by far had the best spread of colors in the fall.

I love california cause I don't have to shovel out 100 ft driveways in the winter......PLUS I do not miss the humidity.........

Never been to New Hampshire but would love the opportunity some time.....maybe when I get my RV and travel cross country...........Looks absolutely gorgeous.

George -- I am sure you will have some wonderful fall foilage in CT as well.  It is such a wonderful and colorful time of year. Hope you post some photos when things start to change.

Terry ~ Welcome to Active Rain.  I used to work in a law firm in Walnut Creek... it is a great place to call home.  When you get that RV be sure to let me know, I would be honored to show you around  ... so long as the white stuff (snow) is not flying (lol)!

Leaf peepers, huh? That certainly gives me lots of ideas, but none of them have anything to do with trees -- LOL. I better be good. And just to show how good I can be, I leave (pun intended) you with a colorful sweetgum leaf from San Diego, California. After all, we have fall colors, too!

I had to read that twice because I thought "peepers" was a typo. I kept wanting to read about the leaf peppers, perhaps some insect that was invading.... LOL

I wish I had the time to be a "leaf peeper".  Fall is a busy time for real estate agents, so I will have to enjoy the local foliage, which is not as spectacular as New Hampshire's.

Russel ~  You ARE too funny!  Get your mind out of the gutter (lol).  Thanks for the sweetgum leaf... it is a great reminder of how colorful San Diego can be.  Thanks for sharing fall on the west coast with us on the east coast.

Jennifer ~  We are looking forward to the invasion and know that Mother nature has a great show prepared this year... New England is beautiful in the fall.

Jim ~  I'll be on the look out for any leaf peppers... if I see one I will take a picture and post it here.

Gail ~ It would be great to have you visit NH, but you are right, real estate is very busy... we all want to get things done before the first snow flakes fall...!  I think it will be lovely in Connecticut as well.

This is to wierd... and active rain leaf peeper   the graphic is SATIN-LEAF   whoa!

Since I will have to do my mandatory "leaf peeping" in Colorado and Utah this year, I trust that we will see lots of spectacular photos from Joan Whitebook to see what we are missing :)
