This is a pretty cynical world we live in where when one person exerts HIGH INTEGRITY, it doesn't seem to be the norm. Almost out of ordinary and down right surprising. It's quite sad to say that, and especially in the sales world where Yay is not a Yay and Nay may not be a Nay.

When people dont do as they say, it's almost expectable. Sometimes, acceptable.

I just wonder Why we cant say what we mean and Why we cant do what we say we're going to do.

Have we been covered by greed? Whatever happened to personal accountability? Where did it go? Why is it that we put no values to our words and actions?

Oh well, moving on. What else could you and I expect, right?

But that doesn't mean it won't keep me wondering when people could do business with a hand shake. Gone are the days.

Let your Yes be Yes and your No be No. Simple statement to live by. However, this is my motto. Make it happen.

Loreena, it's too bad that part of becoming a real estate agent doesn't include a test for "level of integrity".

Walk the walk and talk the talk and have it mean something?  mmm... what a novel idea.  I always say my reputation and my integrity are all I have and have stood me well in this business.  But, as time moves along I am seeing, increasingly so, that this isn't the case with those I do business with.

I recently made an error on a loan I was working on, and I flat out admitted it to the borrower. My boss thought I was crazy and said he wouldn't have done that. But honesty before God and man 100% is what is right. Even if only I knew I was wrong, it usually isn't something that should be hidden. Just my feeling. It worked out in the end. The client sincerely thanked me for my hard work on it.

Loreena,  I think integrity is a bit like common sense. If it was so common then why are we so surprised when we find it.  But I do admire those who take the extra effort to conduct their business affairs with integrity.  It provides personal value to our business reputation as well as the overall good of our industry.

Steve - That's exactly how I thought people should operate too. Integrity is doing the right thing when no one is looking.

As you can tell, the rain has brought some disappointment in my perspective of some people. I never want to wear the shady glasses but it's so hard.

I was just talking with an elderly seller today about this. He was so disturbed that people seem to have lost all sense of "what is right" anymore. There are many that just don't think it matters to "get away" with something and that they're justified in how they treat others. Some days it seems like it's all around us, but character and integrity are formed by the choices we make everyday. We are all accountable for what we do and say - eventually.

I'm pretty bummed about the level of integrity I find in people. I hate that I can only believe half of what people say.

Some people Loreena are people of their word, others not. Follow the actions, then you only get burned once...

It is a sad commentary, but I wonder if it really has changed, or just that we are awakening to it.  I did grow up with and learn from many people, all who said what they would do, and did what they said they would.  My father has a reputation for being a lunatic (he is a builder)  But the Realtors explain to his prospects/clients, that while he does not negotiate, he says what he does, and does what he says he will.  and he eats, all extra's that come along. The price they sign on the contract, is the price they will pay.

And if something goes wrong down the road, his crew is there the next day, if not the same day.  People are more than happy to overlook personality flaws, when one has integrity & principles.

I recently heard a shocking story about a Realtor that I know of that got caught in a big ol' lie by his client....she nailed him.  This was someone that I had thought to be respectable.......

I think it's pretty simple.  Do what you say you will do when you say you'll do it.  That's quite a challenge for most of us.

I always thought about how I could make a killing if I would succomb.  I won't succomb so I am comfortable and can sleep at night.

Very good thought provoking post.  What is sad is that its necessary to evaluate the other persons integrity.  In these times and in this industry it is necessary.
