Glad to hear it's raining somewhere in Texas. Send some of it to West Texas, too!

Never heard of it  raining fishes and frogs, I must have been hiding under a rock for awhile!

OK, I never got the "raining cats and dogs" thing.  Does anyone know it's origin?

Beverly it may just be the area where we live. We live at Canyon Lake and many of the old timers say  some of these Cliche's. (Ceil)

Jeff I was raised in Florida and my grandmother always used that expression, no telling where that old "conch" got it from. That's what they call themself in Key West - "conch". It's strange how we hear some of these words and think others are just as familiar.(Ceil)

Everyone feel free to share some of your own Cliche's.

Howdy there Jeff, nice to meet ya!

Actually the say-en raining cats and dogs, there are many explanations for this here phrase. The one that I like the most, sayes that cats were at one time thought to have influence over storms, especially by sailors, and that dogs were symbols of storms, often accompanying images and descriptions of the Norse storm god Odin. So when particularly violent tempest appearded, folks suggested it was caused by cats, bringing the rain and dogs brought the wind on.

Hello Dale thanks for stopping by Carl's blog and for answering Jeff's questions. I don't know how in the world we would get along without all your help. Everytime it rains I'll know the meaning of "Raining Cat's and Dog's) (Ceil)

Tracy seems it would be interesting to know a little more about some of these Cliche's; we say them and never really think much where and how they got started.

Georgina thanks for the good wishes. It has been a nice slow rain, exactly what we need. We have been drought stricken for so long a hard pelting rain would run off too quickly. Nature is wonderful and comes just in the nick of time.

The only cliché I'm familiar with out of those you listed is "raining cats and dogs." Might have to find out where that came from. Here I come, Google.
