1001 Ways to Reward EmployeesLast night I read a blog post somewhere comparing ActiveRain to a library. Let's imagine the Internet as the main library and ActiveRain as your local city library. Imagine your city library having 159,732 users. Imagine your city library having over a million books in it, on every subject you can imagine -- real estate, humor, zoos, family, food, weight loss, weight gain, wildlife, pets, etc. Imagine as you enter and leave your city library, you meet people who have the same interests as you, live in the same neighborhood, need your help, or can help you.

If you work in, or on, real estate -- see my incomplete list above -- you should have a library card to the largest real estate library in the world. It's called ActiveRain, and your library card is called Rainmaker.

Forensic Geotechnical and Foundation EngineeringYour Rainmaker library card gets you much more than a book for a week. At the ActiveRain library you'll not only learn, but you'll have the opportunity to teach. You'll make friends, sometimes even going out to eat lunch with them. You'll learn about them, their family, their pets, their vacations, their cars, their hobbies, their politics, their humor....

As you make use of the ActiveRain library, the general public will sit up and take notice. They'll see that you recently checked out a book on loan modifications, foreclosures, credit repair, home inspections, plumbing, renovating a kitchen, and many, many other topics. They'll see that you recently wrote a book on loan modifications, foreclosures, credit repair, home inspections, plumbing, renovating a kitchen, and many, many other topics.

Guerrilla Marketing WeaponsIf you don't know how to make the best use of your Rainmaker library card, following are the titles and their Dewey Decimal link to 25 of the best books in our library. They should be the first books you check out with your Rainmaker library card.

  1. "Benefits of your Rainmaker library card," by Brad Andersohn
  2. "New library card users," by Brad Andersohn

Well stated Russel.  And you are right.  What an extensive selection this library has.  Pass Google and go straight to Active Rain lol.

You should add this post to the Newbie group.

Love the comparison, Russel.  AR is becoming my second favorite search engine (next to Google).  Chances are, if you have a question, all you have to do is type in a few keywords and you'll find a post here on Active Rain.

I agree... I go to this site first for real estate questions, ideas , fun stuff like sharing photos and hanging with people who I like!

Hi Russel, is there a way of searching AR if you are looking for a specific topic.  Say "listing presentations", is there a way to search all the blogs that have something to do with a "listing presentation".  Wouldn't that be good.

I need to go to the library more often now I just need to find the time.  My wife already calls herself a real estate widow.

Hi Russel - This is an apt analogy.  I have learned so much since I joined Active Rain, and I just hope that I have been able to share a few things that have helped others.

Russell just think of all the zillions years of experience here on Active Rain. I bet there is not a question that would be asked that someone could not answer. There's your next blog. Zillions and Zillions of years experience on AR.

Met with a client today...has need of some special information. I thought first--and only--of ActiveRain. Excellent analogy Russel. If it says books and/or library, it has my attention.

Russel-What a great comparison.  Within one week of joining ActiveRain I remember telling a fellow Stager that I felt I got more information from AR than any other Staging website including an organization to which I belonged.  Loved the list and have bookmarked your post.

Russel, outstanding post!  I feel the same way, I can't even begin to imagine how much I have learned from the writers here at Active Rain, yourself included!  I hope that every once in a while, I posted some little golden nugget that someone could use and have it help them.  I am amazed constantly at the talented writers that post here, and it is a terrible shame if we aren't taking advantage of this as members of the community.  Thank you for putting this into words!  Great job!

Russell,

It is a great resource.  Much like a library but not as well cataloged as it could be.  I'm sure that will improve.  Speaking of library cards, everyone should probably have one of those too!  It's amazing what information your tax dollars provide for you that never gets utilized.

Hey, Folks - Glad everyone is enjoying the library, even some spammers. I guess everyone has a right to the public library, eh?

I've tried to keep my blog open to non-members hoping that once they see the great books that we have in our library, they, too, will get join and get a library card. But I might have to take my blog to members only comments again, for a while at least. Just depends on how much spam I get today. Anyway, make use of the library, the books, the music, the DVDs, and anything else that you think can help you in your business and life.

Happy reading!
