About Home buyer Credit-

The purchaser, however, must qualify as a first-time home buyer, which for purposes of this credit means someone who has not owned a primary residence in the past three years.

The First-Time Home buyer Credit, originally passed in 2008 and modified in 2009, provides up to $8,000 for first-time homebuyers. If the taxpayer is married, this requirement also applies to the taxpayer's spouse. The home purchase must close before Dec. 1, 2009, most lenders are using Nov 30th as a deadline to close, and the credit may not be claimed on the purchaser's tax return until after the taxpayer closes and has purchased the home.

It is coming fast. So many folks were waiting because there was time. That time is gone. We can hope that they extend it as being discussed, but no promises.

At NAR they are working hard to get the $8000 tax credit extended. Let's all give them our support.

Good reminder. We are still receiving calls from prospective buyers that are not familiar with the tax credit benefit.

The young couple near to us used this option, but that is the only one in our neighborhood that we know about. Not certain that I want to see this extended with the danger of more homes being vacated within the next years if earnings received do not support payments due.  Michigan is hurting & Macomb Co. has 18.6 % unemployment, so perhaps here it might be a good thing. Time will tell--it is still good to remind potential clients about the deadline.
