Orange County Executive Edward A. Diana announced an important series of seminars that is being offered through the Orange County Office for the Aging and Valley View Center for Nursing Care and Rehabilitation

It is a 7-part series of FREE seminars and discussions designed to assist families, friends and neighbors caring for elderly loved ones.

Toni Nekvapil, Special Programs Assistant, Orange County Office for the Aging’s Caregiver Resource Center, and special guests will present an overview of community resources available for caregivers of the elderly, explain effective advocacy techniques, as well as provide insight into caring for aging family members. This program is partially funded by a grant from the New York State Office for the Aging

Where: Valley View Center for Nursing Care and Rehabilitation Glenmere Cove Road, Goshen, New York

Dates: 7 Consecutive Thursdays beginning October 8, 2009

Time: 6:00 P.M. to 8:30 P.M. each Thursday

Oct. 8th: Family Dynamics: Getting the Conversation Started when Discussing Difficult Topics
Oct. 15th: The Importance of Medication and Nutrition Management
Oct. 22nd: Understanding the Course of a Hospitalization and Discharge Planning
Oct. 29th: Safety in the Home and on the Roads for the Older Population
Nov. 5th: Benefits and Services: Medicaid, Social Security, Long Term Care and Veterans Services
Nov. 12th: How to Avoid Injuries as a Caregiver and the Benefits of Rehabilitation Therapy
Nov. 19th: Legal Issues Facing Caregivers: Guardianship

Presenters Include Representatives from: Orange County Office for the Aging, Valley View Center for Nursing Care and Rehabilitation, Orange County Department of Social Services, Orange County Veterans Service Agency, A&T Healthcare, Alzheimer’s Association, Social Security Administration, Fidelis Care at Home, Women's Bar Association of Orange & Sullivan Counties

Paddy, This truly is going to help many people.  We could use something like this here where so many are struggling to take care of their parents.  A little guidence would be a huge benefit.

This is the second post I've read tonight that focuses on helping people in need, primarily if they're seniors. I love it! More should be done for people who genuinely need help; like the elderly!
