Somehow, someway I have lost all balance with my online marketing.  I'm here and there and spending many many hours online every single day.

I know what goes on with many of my online friends and I keep up to date on all kinds of information and sometimes I get lost in my virtual world

Is this happening to you?

It was three years ago...I got hot and heavy with the Internet.  I mean real hot and heavy!  So hot and heavy that anywhere that I went...and all I thought about was there Internet access available?

Recently I took a look at everything that I have been doing...with unfinished profiles...many social networks I rarely utilize..blogs with little or no content..man it looks bad...and I realized I needed a break from the net to figure out what, when and where I will spend my time online. Is it for fun or do I want to focus on the money making aspects of it?

It was amazing....3 days away from the Internet and my life didn't end!

I know my claim is partially true as I had to follow up and correspond to emails but for 3 days...I ignored Facebook, Twitter and all of my social networking sites

I survived and today

I feel really refreshed and it feels like I gained many hours back into my life.  I realized I spend way too much time online.

So if you are feeling out of balance, burned out or want to give your fingers a rest.  Take a break but promise yourself...when you get back online you will use the time you spend on the Internet very very wisely!

My normal "non-internet/non-phone" weekend is actually in about 11 days...  I'm not going this year (the event venue changed and we have other things happening in life).  But, I'll try to make up for it...

Hi Midori,

I have really backed away from online excesses.

It is quite possible ot spend 10 minutes on Face book and Linked in daily, write a blog 3 times a week, post to ping.fm and have the ping place your post on many sites.

It is a very good holding strategy.

But, and there is a big but.

You don't grow your online presence by being mediocre.  being mediocre results from cutting corners.  writing quick blog posts.  means not spending the time to learn the lates and greatest tools, applications.

You Midori, have become one of the stars of the online show.

I feel i am suffering as i am doing enough to get by- for my own sanity and my family too.

Midori - what a great call to action. Can I? Should I? Will I? Sometimes business forces that time away and it's a good thing.

Midori, my problem is almost the reverse.  I totally ignore the social sites and I know I shouldn't.  I've got to get my plan in place for those sites and work it.

ToulaRosebrock,comHi Midori:

I've got to admit, I like to at least check my e-mail everyday.

I can't imagine not answering my e-mails for three days.

Midori, it is been a busy spring and summer market so I have been doing less, on every site. This week I downloaded TweetDeck to keep up more. My feed reader is buldging. Everyone needs a break mentally and physically to enjoy life.

You have to pick and choose...can't be everywhere all the time...and you have to wonder about the people who appear to be just that...when are they doing their "real job" and having  a "real life" or are they just statues in the blogosphere ?

Hi Midori. I'm getting away tomorrow to go to ATL to the NMATL social media event with Jeff Turner and Chris Brogan! I love perpetuating and working on my websites and all my favorite spots on the internet. This feeds my goal - - more business to refer out. Just have to get the market to cooperate.

Since almost 11 years I'm using Internet and I always tried to limit my time on net. World will not end , if we are not there on net for few days.  I totally agree with sally adn David. When are they doing their "REAL JOB" ?

I'm not quite as addicted but am trying to keep up and it is a challenge. Glad you had the nice respite.

Nice post.  It is good to take a break from everything on a regular basis.  We have kind of lost that "day of rest" concept.

Midori --- AMEN --- I have started using TweetDeck so that I can do more useful Tweeting -- it does help a lot.  I know that I probably am one who should take a 3 day break.

Midori - I was wondering what happened to you? lol

Lisa and I will be taking a well deserved vacation soon.. I wonder if we'll have internet access.... hmmm Will I miss it? All ponderous questions... I personally would like to disconnect for a few days at least but I'm sure I'll be checking emails on pending deals. You just can't get away from all of it when you run your own business. Hope you are well down in sunny Fla.

Midori, so happy to hear you took some time away and survived.  We must all realize that it's ok to do that once and awhile and I too have taken time away to focus on my client's work as well as mine.  It gives you a whole new focus and perspective and there's nothing wrong with that.  Hope all is well with you and your family. ~Anne Marie
