My owner is a home inspector in San Diego.I've often thought that it's a sham that banks can get away with foreclosing on a property and then selling it "as is." I think states or the federal government should pass a law forcing anyone who disclaims knowledge of the property because they haven't lived in it to get a home inspection on the property so that they can abide by the disclosure laws just like everyone else. Alas, I don't see that happening in my lifetime, and I'm only 24 34 44 54.

Today's inspection was a great example -- 2,331 square feet up in the Escondido boondocks. The whole house had been beautifully renovated, having been built in 1980, but some things that I found were indicating to me that, perhaps, some of the permits were not applied for and signed off on for the work.

The following is a picture of some beautiful closet doors -- certainly no lack of closet and storage space -- but there's something weird about this picture and I just can't put my thumb on it:

Closet doors

Anyone have any idea what's causing my consternation?

I agree about the "As Is" crap.  The banks and anyone else who sells a property should not be allowed to use "As Is".  Just needs to go away.

I see a garage door mechanism on the ceiling and a garage door in the reflection.  The mirrored doors make it look like a bedroom.  Did they call this a bedroom?

Is that an opening to the outside on the wall opposite the mirror?

Gosh my garage doesn't have a closet.  Is it a tool closet?

HI Russel - It does look like a carpeted garage with closets added.  It's weird having two on one wall that are different heights and with different frames and then another one around the corner - like they got a deal on some closet doors and these mismatched ones were all they had.  Then there is an open door leading somewhere on one wall and what looks like the exterior garage entry on another wall.  What on earth did they use this room for?  Bedroom for a clothes horse?

Russell the garage door opener is one clue.  The other is the different heights of the closets the next is wow did they really like their car so much as to create a bedroom for it with carpet and everything?

Yeah, I am with the others, the garage door opener, the garage doors, the carpet, doesn't add up to me, LOL.

And I agree, the banks should get an inspection.

Russell I agree the banks should act in a responsible manner and order an inspection on the property but as we know that probably won't happen. I would never purchase a home without an inspection. Yes, it does look like a garage turned into a bedroom or maybe they got the  closet doors and carpet cheap.

Hey, Sandra - Maybe you and I could get everyone to repeat after us, "Just go away, as is, just go away." Hmmmmm. Perhaps we could also start a "Just go away" group here at ActiveRain - LOL.

Hey, Laurie - You're right on all counts. Interestingly, they left the garage door and opener working, and they left the garage wall vents open. There's more to this story, though. Stay tuned for today's post.

Hey, Tammy - No. They were clothes closets.

Hey, Susan - It was a bedroom, mostly. There's more to the story, though. As I told Laurie above, "stay tuned."

Hey, Larry - Maybe it was a historic 1964½ Ford Mustang. If I had one of those babies, I might park it on carpet, too!

Hey, Andrea - More coming up about this unique conversion.

Hey, Carl - Maybe the former owners were interior designers, or maybe even stagers. Maybe ActiveRain stagers! LOL
