Hello, these petroglyphs go back perhaps several hundreds of years now.  The English translation of this one is "She Who Watches"  Only some of these works of art were removed from their original location before the valley flooded behind the dam.  Several were more recently placed outside at Columbia Hill State Park and are under constant video surveillance.  Watching the watcher... It reminds me of some of the hieroglyphics here in Hawaii.

Aloha & best wishes

Hello Richard, this park has only a modest sample of what is present, now many fathoms under the water.  I like the Hawaii pieces as well.  Aloha and Mahalo.  John

We are landscaping our yard and would love to find something cool like that in it.  We might go with an Inukshuk made of stone if we can find one.

John, that is SO COOL! There are many under water too? I wonder if they will be dug out & preserved?

Hello Robert, I'm not sure if there are any native artists in the Pacific Northwest that practice this today.  I do see that Desert Little Bear (http://www.rockartcreations.com/artist.html) creates this artform in Arizona.  John

Hello Marney, most of these are underwater and perhaps lost forever.  Their location was originally a desert and thus, new "patina" on the rock was slow to appear.  Now, being underwater for 51 years now it is hard to imagine what effect the water, mud and silt will have had.  At the 50 year mark for The Dalles dam there was a lot of pressure to have them lower the water level to let Celilo Falls reappear however, the commercial barge interests prevented that from happening.  John
