My father died in July. He was a WWII Veteran. He served in the Armed Guard, a separate
branch of the Navy, which served as armed protection for US commercial vessels sailing all
over the world. He saw foreign ports, fired big guns at the enemy for 4 years, and protected
the ships he was assigned to defend. He came home after the war was over, married, fathered
4 children and worked hard to support his family.

Now he is gone. My mother is a widow and is trying to keep herself independent and in
her own home.
The Veterans Administration has a benefit for spouses that will cover some of her expenses
IF I CAN FIND OUT WHICH FORMS TO FILL OUT AND WHERE TO SEND THEM!!!
I have spent a morning trying to get a simple answer to my questions. After ten telephone
calls, I have a pretty good grasp of why government bureauacy doesn't function well. I
don't have an answer to the simple question about which forms to fill out.
Maybe you can help me.
In typical government fashion, there is a 14 page form on the internet at the VA site with
a 51 page manual to instruct one on how to fill it out. No kidding. But everyone I get
connected to at the VA says that isn't their department and they don't know which forms
need to be filled or who can tell me. They all say the same thing before ending our call:
Good Luck!
Somehow, this doesn't foster confidence that this question will be answered soon. On call #9,
I found someone at VA that had "heard" of this program, but didn't know where to connect me
to get an answer.
?????????????

Terry, I would try calling your local Senator or Congressman's office, they generally are very helpful when it comes to dealing with this type of thing. Most often they will have helped other people with similar problems and know what forms need to be filled out. If nothing else, it is a place to start.
