Older condominiums are often where a buyer can find his best values. Often these condos are found in desirable neighborhoods but there are challenges to any home after 25 to 40 years of continuous occupancy. Here are a few tips to consider regarding your disposer:
- When using your garbage disposal always run plenty of cold water before and after putting waste down the sink. This helps flush the system.
- Run ice cubes through your disposer once a week.
- Som items will tax your older condos drain pipes and you should not put these items down the drain if possible:
- bones
- egg shells
- stringy vegetables
- coffee grounds
- pasta
- heavy fats.
- If your garbage disposal doesn't respond when you turn it on, check the reset button on your disposer.
- Drain cleaner is generally a bad idea in your kitchen sink.

I'm a little surprised you recommend cold water. I've always thought that hot water might soften food or refuse and melt down any lard or fat. I also put a half lemon in from time to time to feshen things up. ; )
