Emergency Notification Alerts Code Red Dekalb County GA - The other night I received a phone call from a toll free number. It was the Dekalb County's Emergency Notification Alert. Due to the heavy rains and flooding Governor Sonny Perdue declared a state of emergency for 17 Georgia Counties.

DeKalb County, GA citizens now have the ability to receive personal emergency notifications via the CodeRED system. Click on the CodeRED link below to register for the emergency notifications. Upon completion of your registration, you will begin receiving alerts via the telephone numbers that you have designated.  Sign up for the Dekalb County GA CodeRed Alerts.

Code Red

The automated call told me that Dekalb was giving a voluntary evacuation notice. They stated where the emergency shelters were set up, they mentioned the Red Cross, the Salvation Army and other important information for people that needed it.

The alerts will also be used for bio-terrorism alerts and boil water advisories. See more information from Dekalb County's website regarding road closures and other information.

This rain and flooding is highly unusual for metro Atlanta. It was the worst "storm" in 90 years.  We are starting to dry out and look forward to sunny days.

Wish you I could send you some sunshine here.  It's been hot, and dry and windy!!!  Hope it dries out there soon.

Jen - I saw the damage estimates for N. Georgia are skyrocketing.  I certainly hope the worst is over.  This is a great post.  CodeRed sounds like an important system and I'm glad you are letting people know about it.

Jane, It looks like we have some drier days coming. Thanks for sending them! :)

George, If CodeRed isn't everywhere, it should be. In this age of technology, it's seems an easy way to get the messages out.

Erik,  The damage is very high and probably going to go higher as the water continues to recede.  I hope the worst is over too, thank you. I have never seen anything like it.

Thanks Patricia. One thing I've been reminded of from all of this is that no one is invincible. It also reminds me that we don't need to get upset over little things when there are people that are going through so much more.

Sounds like Georgia has put a good system into place.  I'm just sorry they have needed to use it.  Hope you are safe.

Hope you're doing okay over there, Jen. Our system is called "Reverse 911." They call us. The first system couldn't call cell phones for some strange reason. Uh, it's just a phone number! The system they put in place in the Summer of 2007 does call cell phones, and it worked great in the October 2007 wildfires.
