North Georgia Mountains | North Georgia Metro Atlanta | Paulding, Cobb and Douglas Counties

I'm sure it's been on the national news about all of the rain and flooding in Georgia just a few days ago. I am a Georgia native and grew up in the area where most of the flooding took place, Austell, Hiram and Powder Springs. I've seen Sweetwater Creek flood over the years and at times, thought it could not possilby ever flood any worse than what I saw back then. But, I have been proven wrong with this latest deluge.

A friend's brother shot this video of the flooding in the area that was once old stomping grounds for me. (Cobb, Douglas and Paulding Counties) which are all about 1 to 1.5 hours away from the Blue Ridge Mountains. I still have family and friends there. Of course we've had our share of rain here in the mountains too. Eight straight days had creeks and rivers rolling. But our neighbors to the south and west of the Blue Ridge Mountains suffered the most. I can't even begin to imagine the damage and destruction left behind once the waters recede. And the most tragic part of all is the loss of life.

Thank you S. Thrasher for the video.

Stay out of the water girl. I hope it stops raining and lets you get out and do some business.

Terry:  I was showing property in pouring down rain on Sunday.  I had to open a gate before I could enter the premises and of course, I could not get the gate unlocked so needless to say, I was drenched to the bone.  But all in all, it was something to laugh about because it reminded me of playing out in the rain when I was a kid. Since it was just rain and no lightening, it was actually fun.

Keep your head above water. I could almost throw a rock and hit GA from my house. We've had some flooding here too but it seems to have receded for the most part now.

Julia: Hope you didn't have any damage.  I think we tend to under estimate the power of water.  I know I do.

Donna, I'm certainly glad the flooding didn't effect your area! That is unreal!

Tracy:  We had some flooding here but not anything like what you see in the video.  So many homes flooded that are not even near a creek.  I wonder how many of those homes flooded because of storm drains that were overwhelmed.

Donna, That is an absolutely frightening video.  I hope people can stay safe and I hope the flooding ends soon.
