Social media is definitely not a fad.  Things might change here and there like Facebook took over MySpace users, but overall, it's here and only going to get better!

Mirela - I referred to social media as a revolution over a year ago, and I haven't changed my thinking on this since then.  Good stuff!

You either get on the bandwagon or you will be lost. I remember saying this to a realtor when i worked at CB years ago. He had been in the business for over 35 years at that time. It took him awhile (between the foul language) but he persevered. It was a war of "will" and yes the "net" won.

Mirela,  It's here to stay. It's like going from the horse and the Model T.  My Grandfather told me he was glad when he had them, but he didn't want to go back.  It's wonderful and it's now and...

The question is how do you tap into this resource effectively enough to generate business for yourself without losing your personal time to the technology. There are only so many hours in a day.

Mirela, I consider myself sooo lucky to have taken a course this summer at one of our local high schools.  I knew that social media would be something I had to learn at some point. Whoa, was I shocked to see how I may have missed the boat!  It looks like a nice placid looking duck swimming along and underwater, that duck is paddling away! That's AR!!!!  I am shocked at how many brokers as well as our local board who have not offered programs to get agents up and running, as you have done. Oops, I have to jump back in the water, now!  Thanks for the post.  Impressive figures.

So right, but then what is next. Those space helmets like in the movie the Jetsons are coming soon. The air so dirty we have to wear them to breath. I read an article that was written in the 80's that said folks couldn't sit still long enough to operate computers for more than 4 hours and that the work weeks would have to be shortened to accomodate that.

Mirela, compelling numbers.  If someone can tell me how to be involved in all the social media outlets in less than 30 min a day, I'd be thrilled.  Having trouble keeping up with all the different sites. I guess eventually, there will be 2-3 big sites and the others will fall by the wayside.  Thanks for the info.

Sandy:  I learnt recently that blogs containing video get crawled by Google spiders more expediently, thus they get indexed by Google more rapidly.   I'm not exactly sure how that works or why, but I don't really care.  If I want Google to index my blog faster, I know what to do...

Kathryn:  I did this a while back (I learnt about it on AR), but I set it all up and now the following happens:

My Tweets get fed to my Facebook automatically, so I only enter once.

My AR blogs get Tweeted automatically, thus they make it to Facebook automatically, as soon as I post them.

My Real Bird One Listing Websites:  I can blog those on AR with a simple copy & paste, which then gets Tweeted and thus also make it to Facebook.

I forgot to mention: my AR blogs are also automatically fed to my Linked-In account.

When I post on AR, I also pay attention to enter my blogs to Localism for my area and also submit them to the appropriate AR channel.  It takes a nano second and I do it by checking the appropriate box when I submit my blog.

All my blogs also have a bookmarking stamp, so any one of my readers can send them to Delicious, Digg it, tweet them or facebook them.  I just re-blogged those instructions a few days ago.  Real Bird has a great blog about it with very easy instructions.

I am no Internet whiz; as a matter of fact, two years ago (pre-ActiveRain), I barely knew how to copy and paste.  I don't really know how to do it; I just read the instructional blogs on Active Rain and I follow the directions given in them.  After I do it, I forget just how to repeat my performance, but I could easily remember, if I read the instructional blog again.  Just hang around AR and read the blogs and you will become adept at all this Social Media stuff and yes:

You, too, will be able to do it all in 30 minutes per day!

Social Media is here to stay. Im part of a convention planning board to bring national speakers to our area. Its a really need for our industry to understand how important this is becoming. I was lucky enough to be featured in the local paper for my facebook fan page. Its coming people and its like a train the cannot be stopped. I dont think we will have anyway to turn it off or slow it down.
