The opposite of a third-party confirmation is the "Blame a third party" mentality.  When I hear an agent say "My Broker won't let me..." to anyone, it grates on my nerves...

When I hear an agent say it to a consumer, I want to shake them and bellow, "FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! GO TO SCHOOL!  OR, GROW A BACKBONE!"

It's an obvious sign of professional weakness, I think. Probably that one PHRASE is sufficient grounds for a smart consumer to fire their agent.  The agent apparently has no foundation in the fundamentals of conducting business.

You need to be knowledgeable and capable of clearly explaining the issue, and the fundamentals behind the issue.  You need to know why YOU have decided that you will take your chosen course of action.

If your Broker "Won't let you," could it be because it is the wrong thing to do?

Could it be because the applicable rule or law is new or unclear, and the potential liability is too great for the amount of benefit to be derived?

Could it be because you just don't do it well?

Could it be because the firm does not have the resources to support an unreal flight of fancy?

Or, could it be because you are working at the wrong firm?

You need to know.  You need to take personal responsibility for your situation.  After all, if you have a real estate license in North Carolina, you, too, are a broker.  In North Carolina, we are ALL brokers.  We have all been to schools and CE and updates, and receive notifications and clarifications from NCAR, NAR, and from our firms, too.  You should have learned something about real estate practice and be conversant beyond moaning about your firm.

Instead of whining about never being allowed to do something, learn it inside out.  Learn the BIC's objections, and if they can be set aside if you get more training.

And if you are not able to reach harmony with the firm's policies and toe the line with a positive mindset?  Time to find a firm that fits your outlook.

BUT, UNTIL THEN, QUIT WHINING TO ALL WITHIN EARSHOT THAT "My Broker won't let me..."

.

Sometimes it is appropriate but they need to question and if we all did not try something new we might sill be looking a weekly books and running ads in the newspaper.

Terry Bonnie,

Agreed.  New methods are certainly worth exploring.  And as a broker, I think I should be able to explain issues thoroughly without using my BIC as a lame excuse.
