Have you used RADIO to market your personal brand? Help!

I am not saying this to brag or toot my own horn but I need to preface this question with respect to where I have been and where I am going...

I have done an excellent job of building strong name recognition in my market area since 1994. I host community events and have branded myself with Coldwell Banker very well...I have ranked nationally with Coldwell Banker for listings sold...

However, I have never used RADIO...I am re planning my entire marketing strategy for 2010 and I do all of my business planning, goal setting and budgeting by October 15th of each year...I have met with a local radio station and am considering hosting my own 30 minute radio talk show. It will broadcast LIVE each week...T

he cost is not so cheap but I feel I can get a few sponsors to cover a large portion of this...It is a 90 day contract but I am OK with that knowing that no new marketing is measurable without consistency..Curious to ask if you have ever used RADIO - did it work for you? What pro and cons do you see or what are your feelings about it...I also need to say that NO other agent in my marketplace is using this form of advertising...It feels like a win - win but even after 15 years of marketing and even speaking all over the country to help other agents...I need to ask you my fellow agents for some advice! Help!

I also am signing a contract next week for ITUNES! I am really excited about that to give REAL ESTATE professionals or anyone for that fact the ability to subscribe to Motivational Moments with Liz! -

I have thought that having the radio show will be a great way to market and broadcast that as well...all broadcast (radio and itunes podcast) will also be able to be stored on my web for people to listen to if they miss the show...

By the way...the goal is not be 51st in the nation for CB for listings sold in 2010 but to be in the top 10! I have to CORNER the market in my area...

How are you doing this? Please share...

All types of advertising is exposure and repetition driven. Don't expect immediate gratification. If you can buy radio at a reasonable price go for it !

Elizabeth - It seems like a radio show would be the perfect next step for you.  Go for it!  It is very aggressive but it certainly can ONLY expand your already massive SOI.  Good luck!

Elizabeth - Congrats to your success since 1994 !  I think it is great that you are not coasting but taking your business to the next level.  It seems that this plan should be very successful for you.  I will definitely follow along.  We have thought about doing some radio here in Philly but have not reached that point as of yet.

Hi Elizabeth, I can't comment on radio too much but I can tell you we do T.V. in our market and I think they have similar benefits. First I will say that I think that 90 day's might not be enough to gage, maybe six months would be better. Secondly what demographics does the show and station have for your desired market. We have found that with television we have a built in credibility that was not there a year ago. That said we can only directly track 1 transaction to the show. It' however did pay for the show for 6 months. that said we get recognized alot these day's but we also have a heavy print presence in our market so the two worked well. I think that with radio you will get some recognition but you will need to promote your show heavily in your print ads and postcards etc. This is why I believe print is still very effective for branding. The fact that your show will be informative should be a great resource as time goes on, record them and post to your website and youtube. I am not sure what  other marketing campaigns you do in your market but they should all promote your show as well. I am actually in the process of forming a production company with the host of our show (a small one) to do not just television but radio, youtube video blogs and webstuff. I could go on but I am not sure what else you want to know. I can't stress enough the length of committment being longer then 3 months, and no I have no shares in your local station lol. If you ever want to pick our brains about our experiences so far (2 years of mass media marketing) feel free to call toll free @ 1-866-240-5455. I don't have all the answers for sure but maybe a few. You can check out the show by going to our website www.thedreamteamonline.ca and click the button that say's "our t.v. show" warning it is not big budget lol. Radio is probaly just as effective if your market already knows your name. All The Best.

One more thing. To get started we used the services of a media buyer.....they seemed to get us a much better rate then we were originally quoted. You may want to check into that for your market. I realize that you are already well known in your area but used properly it should be an effective tool for you.

Chad: WOW! Very helpful! Thanks so much! I have much debate on this because the one thing they do not offer that I would like is streaming LIVE coverage via the web...I just feel that if a company is not web based these days they are like an old black and white tube TV! I pride myself on being in the cutting edge of the marketplace and am not sure this is the show place for me...I do start a podcast tomorrow and am really excited about it. The service also can do a 45 min. show that I can share etc as well as have RSS feed for...So, much to consider...I will take you up on the brain swapping soon! As for the webinar tomorrow...I think you will really enjoy it and no problem if you have to cut out! If it is easier I will be glad to do a one on one if needed. Thanks for your great feedback!

I look forward to chatting with you more!

Liz
