I do not usually do things like this but I have to pass this information along.  I have found a dog food called Dogswell it is wonderful.  Heres the story:

My dog is a Cairn Terrier and he has food alergies (beef and wheat gluten)  He also has airborn alergies ( pollen ragweed) when his alergies Heat Him Up, he just rips the hair right out of his skin.  I was feeding him Science Diet for sensative skin and giving him fish oil pills and prednizone and a prescription anit-histimene.

Three months ago I switched him to Dogswell.  The ingredients are simple. Chicken (yes...first ingredient) Chicken meal, blueberries, carrots....you get the picture. NO GLUTEN or any other crap.  His coat is great his waste has lessend his scratching, biting and whining has stopped.  He is down to one prednizone a month and I have even cut back on his anti histimine.

It is worth looking into.  Here in Florida at my local pet store (family run) I pay approximatly $10 for a 4lb bag which feeds my Toto for a month.  I was paying $15 for the same size science diet which is full of fillers and chemicals.

check out their website.

Michael, How wonderful you found a product to help your pooch feel better! Can I make a suggestion: if you rename the post title to something like "Help for your dogs skin allergies" you may get the word out to more folks"

That food actually sounds kinda yummy.  I've always abhorred commercial dog food, but in all the years I've owned dogs there wasnt much choice out there.  affordable choice that is.  That food sounds like just the ticket for any dog.  thanks for the info!

Ginger - Thank YOu for the advice about changing the name of the post.  Good Stuff.

Terry & Rita - My dog has never gotten excited ove his food before.  These days, every morning he hopps around knowing he's getting his yummies.  I also found a treat by the same company.  It is an apple slice wrapped in chicken.  the ingredients are apple, chicken, and wheat flour.  He LOVES them.  Even my Vet is feeding her dogs the food eventhough she sells Science Diet.

That is great Micheal.  I am a firm believer in you are what you eat...that includes my pets.

Gee Michael, This is great news for a lot of dog lovers who have problems with having their dogs eat without having to keep buying different foods on a weekly basis which is cumbersome to do and costly to buy.

We had a similar problem with our dog and ended up getting her Bil Jac - she was on Eukeneuba, but at the pet food store they did a study and gave us a free sample to bring home.  They told us to put a bit of her old dogfood in one dish and the Bil Jac in the other, and that she would eat their food!  Sure enough, the sample box was just enough to do the test for about 3 days, and sure enough she ate the Bil Jac and has been eating it since.....but your food sounds awfully tempting to try.  It is good that chicken is the first ingredient too as that means that is primarily what the food is and not fillers or other junk!

Thanks again for the update, and I will keep the name JUST in case our pooch gets on a picky binge!

What a great dad ;)  I have only fed my animals food that I would eat myself.  Nothing better than lean ground beef, sweet potato, and brown rice for example.  You should always consult you Vet before you do a drastic change.  General consumers do not know how horrible commercial dog food can be. Just check out the ingredients next time and it is filled with additives like corn and wheat that dogs can not digest. So basically they are eating, corn, wheat, soy, meat by products (nothing with ANY nutritional value) and additives. They might as well eat card board. No wonder there are so many allergies, cancers, and other disorders that are now plaguing our pets.

My 3 dogs (personal) dogs that I have had in my life... all have lived over 20 years ;) My cats too. Tonight the menu is raw ground turkey with mackerel, canned pumpkin, blanched kale, their vitamins, and a bone to gnaw on for a bit. Yum!

I agree with this post.  Dogs can be allergic to corn, wheat or soy, beef and chicken.  I try to feed my dogs a healthy combination of good kibble and make sure the #1 ingredient is protein from a good source.  I also do not feed any by-products.  The only human food my dogs get is the occasional left over home made soup poured over their kibble, mind you I know what I put in the soup and make sure there is nothing to hurt them.  They get an occasional salmon skin, yummy, cause I wont eat it.

I'm glad you found the right feed for your dog.

Lori ~ Wow, your kids eat better than I do.  That is awesome and keep it up.  Toto is 6 and has  no  digestive, joint or energy issues.

melissa ~ My dog has food and airborn allergies.  Beef, gluten, pollen, and rag weed.  I am very cautious as to what I feed him.

Hi Michael - Sorry to hear about your pup's allergies. Great news that you found such a great food for him though. Our guy has been on a special brand as well since we wanted to avoid all of the fillers. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Michael ~ I will have to look for this healthy do food at our pet store. My old man (he is 14) has become a very picky  eater lately! Maybe he will like to try something healthy that might actually make him feel better.

Terrie - You might want to try cutting open a Fish Oil Capsule and drizzling it over his food.  Toto digs right in when the fish oil is on his nuggets.

Dear Michael,

Thanks for the tip on this great dog-food. My Schnauzer Beaux has been battling ear infections due to food allergy. He can't have beef or corn, the main ingredients in most dog foods. I will give this a try! THANKS!

Thanks for the tip. I feed my baby Timberwolf. Smells good enough to eat! I believe that it's worth it to research a good food for our pets. It keeps them healthy & happy.

Betina - Toto is a Cairn Terrier and he has beef alergies also.  Along with pollen, ragweed, and Dust.  This food has made a huge diference in his health.

Amy - I always read labels when it comes to Toto's food.  My mother is a dialysis patient so I read labels a lot when it comes to food in the pantry. :-)

Thanks for the lead ! What a good puppy-pop you are.  I'll try this for Humphrey, our 5 month old wheaten terrier who seems to be having issue with many off the shelf products.

Valesca - Given Humphreys breed he does lean on the side of allergies.  I tried everything from the "Top" brands and nothing helped until I tried Dogswell.  He is experiencing some seasonal allery issues right now but nothing from the food allergies.  If Humphrey is biting his paw pads and having stinky ears or ear infections chances are its his food.  The dry skin and scratches from seasonal allergies can be helped with Fish Oil for the dry skin and a anti-histimine from your vet.

Thanks Dr Michael ! We're on the road to isolating his food intake to determine if that's the issue..Dogswell is certainly on the list....

I will look into this as well.  I like the part about not having all the additives, and the cost doesn't seem out of line with some of the other products out there.  Thanks, Michael.

Michael, thanks for the information.  One of my guys, Tatanka, has non-food allergies and is on prednizone, but still is pulling out big patches of fur.  I'm going to check into Dogswell right now and see if I can find it here in our small town.

Thanks Michael for the info.  I will pass this along to a friend of mine who has a white lab that has so many allergies.  I have a german shepherd that only gets venison & potato because of IBS, talk about expensive $97. for 32 lb. bag.  I will be checking out this website myself.

Thanks again.
