Fall Inspection Checklist! Part 3 - Interior & Heating

by Carl Winters, Complete Inspection Service

It may be good to call in a professional for this job

There are a few things you can do yourself

Check vents and registers for loose or missing screws or covers.

Change the filter

Look for any visual signs of deterioration, rust or loose parts in your system.

Check to make sure you pilot light is on and working properly.

Make sure you have sufficient heating oil, butane or heat source (order early, don't wait until the last minute to order from your service provide)

Depending on your area of the country and your heating system, the service and maintenance may be quite different. Whatever the system, it does require regular maintenance.

(This was a reminder when my 92-year-old mother called me over the other evening to light her pilot light on her heat system\it's time to get busy with this project). If you are a First Time Home Owner, please be sure to add this to your list of maintenance items.

Shirley your heating and cooling systems are a very important item and should have regular maintenance.

Michael that is a good idea; do you put one out in your area?

I rarely use the heating and cooling system because I like the air outside that Mother and Father Nature provide each day. I do check the air filter on the first Saturday of each month. Only after wildland fires foul the air do I have to change it since I do tend to close the doors and windows and using the air conditioning system during those days.
