Not your average picnic area: Saguaro National Park West, Tucson, AZ

Places of interest in Saguaro National Park West, Tucson, AZ Ez-Kim-In-Zin Picnic Area in Tucson's Saguaro National Park West is the most remote in the park...  and it's an easy drive from anywhere in Tucson.

This lovely rock structure is easily the most unique (and beautiful) picnic spot I've seen anywhere in the southwest.

Check this out:

  • Unparalleled views of Wasson and Amole peaks, in the Tucson Mountains.
  • Magnificent evening sunsets surrounded by a forest of Giant Saguaros.
  • 1,000 year old petroglyphs at the nearby Signal Hill Picnic Area
  • Children-friendly, the picnic area has bathrooms!
  • Quiet and peaceful.  Tucson is on the other side of the mountains.
  • Hiking trails created by the CCC nearly 100 years ago - some with hand-carved granite steps (Hugh Norris trail)
  • Friendly Active Rain Ambassador for Arizona would love to be your guide.  (That would be me.  Call in advance.)

It looks like a great fixer upper. As Igor said in Young Frankenstein, a little paint, some plants, a few throw pillows.....

Well that is the most unusual name I've heard of for a park...what is the story behind the name?

Mike, the map LOOKS like fun. How'd you create it? Special program? Or just technological mastery?

When I first looked at the picture, I thought it was a historic but crumbling rock house.

Hi Mike, I loved your map with the pictures and the arrows to where they were on the map.  Is is hard to do that?

Liz,

It's not hard to make maps like this if you have Microsoft Powerpoint.  Using PP, create the map with the photos and arrows, etc.  Then take a screenshot of your work, and voila!  You've got it!

Jim,

Crumbling, it's not.  Isn't that a cool little retreat?!

Cindy,

You'll just have to come back and visit again.

Sherry,

See my comment above on how to create a map like this.

Donna,

The offer is genuine.  Come on out!

Michelle,

No doubt about it.  I am blessed.

Jane,

Thanks for saying so!  See you on your blog, or around the office.
