I will admit it. I should have been studying for a test for a while now and I chose this morning to cram. I think I work best under a little pressure and I retain more if I have just reviewed the material.
Unfortunately my 17 year old daughter thinks today would be a good time to talk. Forgetting of course that I have no time.
I really want to be supermom and listen, but I have goals and she does to. I suggested that she get busy and study too. That is when she REALLY wanted to talk.
The frustration reminded me of times recently when I was in a restaurant and the young waitress yelled behind my head to a co-worker while my husband and I were trying to talk. Or last night at a class I was taking where the guy behind me wanted to keep cracking jokes to impress the student next to him. Obliviouse that the rest of the class was trying to work through a silent assignment.
Where are people's manners? In each case the individuals had no idea they were being rude or selfish.
Thanks for reading my rant and letting me get this off my chest. Now I am going to study like there is no tomorrow...because there isn't I only have until 12:45 today!
Have you experienced this recently?
Dinah Lee: I think the cases you use showing folks being rude and not letting people talk are a great, but sad indication of what is going on in our society today. Nobody listens... everybody wants to be the center of attention, and if anyone else tries to talk, they SCREAM them down. I think the recently-held Town Hall meetings... which should have been called Town Hall Screamings... are a great example of that. Just plain rudeness. I guess they didn't listen to THEIR mothers when THEY were growing up.
