Dinah Loves Peace and Quiet!I will admit it. I should have been studying for a test for a while now and I chose this morning to cram. I think I work best under a little pressure and I retain more if I have just reviewed the material.

Unfortunately my 17 year old daughter thinks today would be a good time to talk. Forgetting of course that I have no time.

I really want to be supermom and listen, but I have goals and she does to. I suggested that she get busy and study too. That is when she REALLY wanted to talk.

The frustration reminded me of times recently when I was in a restaurant and the young waitress yelled behind my head to a co-worker while my husband and I were trying to talk. Or last night at a class I was taking where the guy behind me wanted to keep cracking jokes to impress the student next to him. Obliviouse that the rest of the class was trying to work through a silent assignment.

Where are people's manners? In each case the individuals had no idea they were being rude or selfish.

Thanks for reading my rant and letting me get this off my chest. Now I am going to study like there is no tomorrow...because there isn't I only have until 12:45 today!

Have you experienced this recently?

Dinah Lee:  I think the cases you use showing folks being rude and not letting people talk are a great, but sad indication of what is going on in our society today.  Nobody listens... everybody wants to be the center of attention, and if anyone else tries to talk, they SCREAM them down.  I think the recently-held Town Hall meetings... which should have been called Town Hall Screamings... are a great example of that.  Just plain rudeness.  I guess they didn't listen to THEIR mothers when THEY were growing up.

Dinah...Some people have just no clue.  With our kids, you don't want to brush them off, for you never know when it is really important.

Thanks for the great comments.

If you wanted to know what my daughter wante to talk about it was a dream she had where my brother looked like a celebrity and it was really weird and her cousin was in the dream but she can't really remember that part, oh, and my mom was in it- that was weird and it was a really Llloonnngg dream that she remembers some parts of. ( and was trying to remember the rest while she was describing it) Riveting but bad timing.

Sorry for the torture. I was a long day!

Oh boy where do I start.

The people in the gas bars talking on the phone ( I pay at the pump now)

Again, servers in a restaurant talking out loud or even worse disappearing into thin air when you need them.  Or being seated and no one comes to take your order.

I could go on but have to go to bed.  Too much AR tonight.

Are you kidding? Manners left society a LONG time ago! I am always floored with how rude people are at times. Yelling, no social patience, cutting in line, and the list just goes on. Trust me, it isn't just you!

Whatcha studying for, Dinah Lee? :)

~ NON-PC COMMENT BELOW - if easily offended close eyes ~

I was in line in a bank this past week and the woman behind me got a call on her cell.

Now I can project my voice, but she was louder than a freakin' BULLHORN!

I have a way of standing when I do NOT WANT someone to get in my comfort zone and as I moved up in line, she was moving as close as possible to me.

I finally started 'doing the stance' (sideways with my left toe pointed out about 2 feet so she would have to stay back). She is LEANING in toward me! Gravity does not work like this!

And this biatch is bellowing the entire time.

When she got off her call, she announced, to the entire line:

I HOPE I WASN'T TALKING TOO LOUD! MY HUSBAND SAYS I TALK TOO LOUD. BUT I'M FROM CUBA, AND...

(and I was thinking ... leave your coffee and pressed sandwiches and your phone and please go back)

I agree. Having just a bit of peace and quiet helps every now and then.

Dinah Lee, what are you studying for ?  Disturbing others by talking loud has become very common these days I guess. Probably they are so busy in their world and they don't even realize that.

Dear Dinah,

Sadly good manners left the masses ages ago. Also common sense is no longer common. Better luck next time!
