The Fathers of My Father

By
Real Estate Agent with DISCOVER TEXAS HOMES

I loved My dad like all other son's love their dad's. But as a youngster I never realized just what my dad was. It wasn't until I was about 28 years old that I begin to realize what he meant to me. It was around this time that we bonded as close as possible as a father and son. Then as he passed away I realized my dad was unique! He was a part of American history. My dad was an American Cowboy!Something that son's in other country's cannot claim. My dad was known to all as a Western aficionado and a Horseman. And that he was and I love him for it.

Danny, this is such a lovely tribute to the men in your family.  How blessed you are that you can trace your family history that far back.  I enjoyed th poem too!  Cowboys have a special place in my hear.  Not sure why.  One of my all-time favorite shows is Gunsmoke.  Happy Father's Day!

I loved the post!  My father has been researching our geneology for years now.  One year we were at the state fair and there was a stand set up with these guys that will research your geneology for you.  As we were pssing by one of the men said "Hey, I can link you all the back to Adam and Eve".  My dad politely replied, "I've already linked us back to God!."  The man couldn't compete.  Happy Father's Day!

Excellent Father's Day post.  Wish I could go back that far.  How did you get all that information?  While I know that my father's ancesters were at least in the Civil War, I can only find back to my paternal grandfather, who I never met.  I'm the oldest living generation in my family!

What a nice tribute to your Dad.  I enjoyed the poem.

We have been out here a long time also.  Our anceastors came to Kansas in wagon trains.

We are gettingr ready to celebrate my Dad's 90th birthday in Colorado this summer.  My parents are old carnies and I swear it has never got out of their blood.  My Mother grew up traveling with the carnival and my Dad joined her when they got married.  They have spent the last 3 weeks traveling through Nebraska and Kansas visiting friends.  They are in their home town of Kinsley this evening but that is what keeps them young.

I want to thank ALL of you for commenting on this article on such a enjoyable day! Yes I had a wonderful time with my children and grandsons. They took me out to eat and my only request was it be somewhere my grand children would enjoy. So they took me to Red Robin. We all enjoyed it. I want to say that for those that wish they could trace their family's like I did. It will be easier for some and harder for most. But there lots of places to help. The Mormon church in Utah has one of the worlds largest genealogy archives. Then there is Family tree on the Internet. It might surprise you if you start there as someone in your family may have already started part of the process. Good luck and thanks a lot!

Danny,

What an AMAZING post! A great tribute to your dad and his dads. You are very lucky to have access to such complete records and even to photos!

And thanks for the information on tracing families - I think it's good to know where you come from!

Wow!!!!!!!! This is soooooo Cool! My Dad's name is Ben W Smith, His father was Benjamin William, his father was Benjamin Franklin Smith! All of the men my dad included, were big cowboys, it's just that Daddy, didn't do it for a living like his dad, and grandad did! My grandfather was a cook for the wagon teams that went on the cattle drives. He was so good that they fired the regular chuckwagon cook and replaced him with my Grandfather. His biscuits were to die for, and the guys new a good thing when they found it! I would be more than interested in talking with you to see if there might be a family connection! By the way, my brothers name is also Danny (Glenn)
