In my 30's I was a single mother raising three boys by myself.  My son Ryan who appeared on my door step was really struggling in life.  You see he is a kid who suffered hardships.  He is a kid who understood life at an early age, it was he who taught me an important lesson in life.  He had no choice, he grew up real quick.

"People Love You The Best Way They Know How!" came out of my mouth when he was truly devastated and was really suffering inside.  At 14 this young man had already lost his mother in a hit and run accident, his dad, at one time was a decent man.  His father died when his mother died meaning his heart and soul.  That began the destruction of his relationship with his father.

I remember him crying to me, it was one of the special moments in our lives, he could not understand why his dad was the way he was and my only explanation was, "He loves the best way he knows how!"  "His love was taught from generation to generation and each of us really try hard to break the cycle."  WOW! This little statement is so true, while I had an awesome childhood I rarely go back beyond the age of 7.  It was a difficult time and those 7 years of my life were traumatic.  I forgave my biological father and realized he loved me the best way he knew how.  While it was not right in my eyes in the way he approached life, I now fully understand and accept it, he did love me the best way he knew how!

Today things are quite different for Ryan, I am so proud of my son!  He now takes care of his father which helped his dad to be a better man.  Forgiveness and understanding seems to be so unnatural at times especially when it comes to family.  We are much harder on family than anyone else.

I guarantee you will not feel the same 10 years from now, you will change, life will change you whether you like it or not.  Your new experiences and human encounters will also influence the way you think.   Don't carry unnecessary burdens we already carry a heavy load.

Thank you Ryan for a fine lesson in life.  "Remember son, I love you the best way I know how!"

Midori, this is a very poignant post.

Don't carry unnecessary burdens we already carry a heavy load. <------This especially resonated with me.  We can choose how to react to what happens to us.

People will change in their own way and time...if ever. It is up to us to accept that some people will not always think the way we do. Nor have the tools to do so. Very beautiful post Midor...thanks for the reminder that I am not perfect as well.

Midori,

I put on my makeup, I'm going to yet another fundraiser for yes, you guess it~St Jude! It's at the Banks and Blues on Main Street (Hint Hint) and now, I'm going to have to reapply! Even though we've talked about your family, your posts are still bringing on the "happy" tears.

Sally- While people choose to think the way they do, often times their minds change because of someone else who is quite open.  Many of my conversations with my son's have changed my thought process.  None of us are perfect and that is something that everyone needs to remember.  Thank you for stopping by.
