Time to cut and gather the wood for this year...

I am lucky that where I live in North Branch, Mn that I am able to go out my back door and cut all the wood I need.  The overhead for doing this is just a bit of time.   Today, I was able to cut almost 2 full cords of wood.

A cord of wood is 4' X 4' X 8' .  Most of my wood, because I hve an outdoor furnace is cut 36-40 inches long.  These peices are almost all 5-10 in diameter, and weigh between 50 and 150#.

I will burn about 12-15 of these trailer loads a year.  There is a certain amount of heat loss because the of the transfer of the hot water to the house, but the 'no mess' in the house makes it very much worth it.   Last yeat, materieal cost me less than $50 dollars to cut and trtansport all my wood and about $100 in electricity for the pumps to heat my house all winter.   Without the wood heat it would have cost Apx $2200.

If you are looking to buy a home with an outdoor furnace, or just thinking of putting one in, give me a call and I will give you the info that I have on this great way to heat you home!

Oh my, that's a lot of wood.  I absolutely LOVE a fire during the cold days of winter.  Sadly, we don't get too many of those down here in Texas, but I take full advantage of every one we do get!  Stay warm.

Ginger...Thanks for stopping.

moshe...That is an idea...I be the ins. would be a killer.

Carissa....I also love a fire...but I hate the mess in the house.  So I have a fire pit ourside that we enjoy all winter.  Even when the temp dips below zero!

Steve...There are a lot of good ones.  i can give some ideas as to what to watch and ask for.

Sounds like a great way to save money on energy and get in shape at the same time by cutting all the firewood my friend.
