Looking into Pinal County, AZ from atop Pusch Ridge

Pinal County mottoPinal County, AZ is #1 in job growth for the nation, according to Money Magazine.

You never heard of Pinal County, AZ?  Think again.  You likely know something about Pinal County without having learned the name. It's the county just north of Tucson, and it's home to:

  • Bioshpere 2, the 3.5 acre glass-enclosed science research center in Oracle, AZ
  • Picacho Peak, site of the westerly-most battle of the Civil War back in 1862.  The battle is re-enacted at Picacho Peak State Park every year in March.
  • Copper Creek, one of twenty ghost towns scattered around Pinal County that you can visit.
  • The Florence Coke Ovens.  Florence is the county seat.  The coke ovens have nothing to do with carbonated beverage or illegal drugs.

Pinal County has an Open Space & Trails Master Plan.  Check it out.  Approximately 50% of the county is comprised of:

  • State Trust Lands
  • National Forest
  • State & County Parks
  • Wilderness Area

Combine all that recreational potential with the fact that Money Magazine rates Pinal County #1 in job growth for the nation, and you just might want to dig a little deeper.  Call me.  I'm never too busy to talk with you.

I did not realize that the Confederate army was that far west. Interesting...

Mike,

People in the foreground add incredible perspective! They also are terribly humbling!

Love the photo.

Biosphere 2 is an equally incredible monument to wasting other peoples money.

Arizona will be the place to be as we continue to experience high growth rates. Investors continue to purchase inexpensive real estate to rent out to individual based upon the growth. Thanks for the information.

Harry,

You're welcome.

Lenn,

The highest growth is in and around Florence, the county seat, and it revolves around the prisons being built in Florence and Eloy.  Long story short, this is a beautiful part of the world, and someone's actually hiring!

Bill,

Forget the 80's.  Click the link to see what the University of Arizona's doing at the Biosphere.

Michael,

We southerners refer to that as "the war of northern agression."  LOL

Mike I was unaware, or maybe I have just forgotten my history, that some of the civil war was fought in AZ.

I love Tucson, but as often as I've been there, I've never been to Biosphere. I guess I never realized it was so close.

Interesting.... but is it a good thing that a prison is the largest source of jobs?

Great info and as always your photos are excellent. BTW Jobs are good to have as long as it's not some sort of Toxic industry! So I guess coke ovens are a clean industry?

Russell - coke ovens and coke production are, without doubt, the industry of the future, and Arizona is hopefully going to lead the world ;-)

Mike - great post as always. Being relatively new to the US, my history lacks some detail - I had no idea we had Civil War battles this far West. Thanks for the education.

It has been many years, but I have been out to the Civil War reinactment.  It was really cool, people living the way they did back when.  I'm not sure I would be up for living like that in real life!

Just read the article about the Coke Ovens.  I have never ventured that way... sounds like a serious 4WD trip.  I thought you had written the article, had to take a second look.

Doreen,

Hey, stranger!  Good to see you in the Rain again; thanks for stopping by.

Simon,

LOL!  Arizona has some interesting historical places.

Russell,

The growth industry for Pinal County is prisons.  Sad commentary on our society.

Ann,

It is what it is.  Sad, though.

Karen,

Thanks for commenting!

Jim,

Now you'll just have to come visit again.  Give us a call.
