Momma's Proud...My Boy Did Good!

Comal County Fair Parade

Yesterday marked a first for me, I got the privilege of watching my 12 year old son Jordan march in his first parade.  Now don't get me wrong, he has ridden on floats in parades since he was born, but this year as a 7th grade honors band member at Mountain Valley Middle School at Canyon Lake Texas, he marched with the band.  I come from a family of musical talent and I got absolutely none of it!  My musical talent is turning on my iPod!

In the fifth grade my son decided to join the beginner band at the private school he attended.  He had to pick an instrument to play and I was completely bowled over when he told me he wanted to take up the trombone like his PaPa (my late father).  So my son, who is now in his third year of band, plays the trombone very well and the special part of that is that he actually plays my Dad's trombone that he played in high school.  My Dad was first chair all state band, so when I say that this is special..I mean it!  I lost my father to cancer in 2005 and hearing Jordan play is like having a little piece of my Dad here with us.

Jordan did it up right and made the honors band this year which is the highest level band in our school system and this affords him to opportunity to do concerts, contests, and audition for the county-wide honors band.  I am so proud of him and love to hear him play.  I was so stoked about getting to see him march in his first parade and imagine my thrill when I saw the MVMS Mighty Hawk Band coming down the street with none other than my son front row center, leading the way!  I was a picture taking, flip video taking, loud cheering band mom!!!

The Hawk Band sounded awesome, their marching was good considering it has rained out almost every single practice they have had and their new shirts showed up just in the nick of time and looked awesome!  I attended their pep rally at school on Thursday and got a preview of coming attractions and I have got to say, our band does a mean "We Will Rock You!!!"

Here are some of the crazy T-Bone Boys after the parade.  Mine is the cool one wearing shades!  I love that two of my son's best friends play trombone too.  The tall one in the center is our neighbor Tristan and Jordan's best friend Garhett is on the right.  I am looking forward to the Canyon Lake Christmas Parade that I emcee every year because that will be their next parade appearance.  Momma's Proud...My Boy Did Good!

Experience Is Your Advantage

I know exactly how you feel. Many years ago, they are both grown, my son and daughter participated separately each year in our Fallbrook, CA parade.  Remembering makes me smile and so will you many years from now.

That is awesome. I am now a proud Grandpa. My oldest granddaughter is allowing me to coach her first soccer game. She is 5 and very independent. Her Mother and I are having a great time teaching the little ones about soccer. Blessings for a great weekend and many more wonderful memories of your son.

It matters to us as much as it matters to you.

Is there anything that can bring a smile and/or a tear to our eye more than watching our kids growing into their own young adult people?  So happy for your well deserved pride.
