City of Roses

Since relocating to Portland in 1990, I noticed why they called it the City of Roses . . .

When I bought a home, I planted a lot of rose bushes, I wanted to feel included in the city of roses!

Now I have my own city of roses in my backyard!

Both web and bud are so delicate, aren't they?  One supports the other, and in the first weekend of fall, I thought this was a wonderful juxtaposition and balance of nature in her purest form.  A bud about to bloom and the busy spider setting up its web.  Both impress me as being "new" and fresh -- just like the crisp fall air in today's evening.  I have a wonderful city of roses with a host of fun developments!

Even us spiders have to eat.  Glad they don't eat flowers though.  Or people...generally.

It may be an itsy bitsy spider but he should be proud of the web he has spun.

Looks like the spider wanted a nice view from the dinner table.

Hi Brenda -- I didn't know if the web would even show up.  THanks for your comment.

Hey Jim . . . the spiders are out now, aren't they!

Thanks for the comment Richard.

Hi Charles -- yup, hard at work.  I love the "anchor" thread that's visible.

Howdy Lee & Carol -- HA. Didn't even think of that.  They have their own 'rose bud' on the table!!  HA

Very Pretty... we used to have a spiders web outside our door..and we would feed this spider every night, it was wild.

Hi Konnie -- how do you feed a spider??  I've never heard of that before . . . I've fed raccoons, but not spiders ;-)

Fantastic shot Carla!  Love the colour of the rose against the black and the spider web just completes it!

That picture is so crisp that I can almost smell the fragrance of the rose bud!  Delicate indeed!

That is a great picture of the web.... it is amazing how symetrical it is.

Thank Al & Peggy -- the color was, actually, a little washed out for some reason.  But I loved that I get the web!

Hey Renee . . . don't you just love how natures' little creatures improvise, and use everything.  It's not as if someone put that bud there and said, Okay, now you can have a good base for your web building.

Hi Joan . . . this pic wasn't suppsed to turn out.  It wasn't even night . . . so the REJECT turned out to be a GOOD picture afterall . . . I didn't doctor it, or anything, it just turned out "bad" -- but I actually liked the dark background, making the web contast so much better.

Hi Carla!  As you said, a deliciously delicate combination!  I loved Lee & Carol's comment about a dinner table with a view!  Great shot!

Have a wonderful week...

Hi Debe -- thank you for the good week wishes!  Lee & Carol's comment was great.

Hey Nevin . . . it was a fluke that I got the top pic, because it was daylight.  But what a nice contrast.  what's the old saying, "stop and smell the roses," (but don't get spider web up your nose!  HA HA HA)

Carla,

Nice poetic license - creating your own rhyme to fit the picture and the moment. :)

I Net Realty Group, Inc. -- the beauty and the beast ... good one!!

What can I say Sheldon?  Great minds and all that . . . .

Thanks Steve, did you see the "real" photo above #13.  Don't know why it photographed so dark, but I liked it.

What a great shot! The contrast is amazing. You really captured the whole setting. That spider was a real worker!

Hey Heather -- THANKS!!

Hi Dick & Dixie -- You know the "contrast" was a fluke ... #13 was the first photo, then I took another one, and it came out with the dark background.  Makes it look like a night shot, but it really wasn't.  It's all smoke and mirrors . . . HA HA HA
