Okay, I admit it, I may be behind the times, but hear out this Simi Valley real estate agent..

Several years ago, it was recommended to me by my Wood Ranch REALTOR friend that I needed to put out my cell phone number and EVERYWHERE!  Yeeks!  Boy, did I resist.  Why?  Well, I had a private office phone, a very nice private office near all kinds of Simi Valley properties and Wood Ranch real estate and I was carrying a pager...do you remember the pagers?  Well, I thought, if anyone needed me, they could reach me on one of those two or come into my office, near the Wood Ranch homes...my cell phone was when I wanted to use it...I didn't want to be called by (goodness, clients and customers!) as I deserved some down time.

Do you know how this has changed in the last several years?  If one doesn't have a cell phone, one is tarnished as they are really not "with it."  Immediate action needs, emergencies, that client that wants it all and NOW...well, I have come to realize how important cell phone service is.  And with the type of market we have been in, people calling for Simi Valley homes for sale...well, I just cannot be without the cell.

If I am calling someone on my cell phone, I want them to know it's me...they can choose to pick up or not...hopefully, they will be so delirious that I've called, they will want to talk with me!   And, of course I know my daughter ignores me most of the time (HA, HA)...

BUT, there is one aspect of cell phone usage that really bugs me and here it is.  blocked and restricted calls.  Not too long ago, I would absolutely not pick up blocked or restricted calls as I believed most of them were solicitations.  Now I come to find out that many of my clients and realtor associates block their calls on the cell phone.  Why???

I've learned to pick up all the calls...never know if it's that multi-million seller wanting me NOW!  or the buyer wanting to write an offer on that Simi Valley luxury home or someone calling me for Simi Valley relocation...

I would love to hear your thoughts on whether to Block or Not to Block!

I have to run...the phone is ringing!

I have been putting my cell phone number on everythng for several years now.  I am not in the office much and the thought of missing a call or email drives me nuts.  Now I do turn it off when I am with people showing property, but I can check voice mail/emails when my people are roaming around the grounds or are up stairs in a home.  I list my cell number as my Direct Private Line.  The blocked numbers and restricted numbers I love.  Most of my high end people have private numbers.  If it is someone selling something, I just tell them I am no longer in real estate and am driving a cab, but do they sell anything to help get blood off car seats.  That usually gets them off the phone.

I will not answer a blocked ID.  If it is someone I want/need to speak with and they have for some strange reason blocked their number, they can leave a voicemail.  There are far too many telemarketers taking up my time as it is.

Well what frustrates me is if I call from my office phone (which is not blocked) and leave a message that I am headed out with a client and please contact me on my cell phone - 95% of the time, the Realtor or whoever will just redial the number from the caller ID and disregard my request. I recently went about changing my numbers so they all forward to my cell which has help alleviate the problem.

I don't have a problem answering blocked ID calls whatsoever.  My brother has a blocked ID so I do tend to assume it's him which of course isn't always the case.  I really on principle dislike caller ID and would NEVER have it at home but have gotten accustomed to it with the cell phone.

Calls on my cell phone are so often business calls - why wouldn't I pick up?

I do think it's dumb for an agent to block their number but whatever floats their boat...

Thanks for your responses.  I am now of the opinion that I need to answer ALL calls.  You never know who it might be.  With the advent of the block or restricted and now I see unknown caller, I am mostly curious as to who it is.  I know my financial adviser has a blocked number and I ALWAYS want to answer his calls.

Who knows...the next time a restricted call comes in, it mght be Publishers' Clearinghouse telling me I've won the $10,000,000 jackpot.  I want that call!!!
