Fall Checklist Part 6 ~~~~~ by Carl Winters ~~~~~the Kitchen

                                                                          The Kitchen

The Dishwasher - Check your racks for any cracks or erosion (this could damage your china and dishes)

Look for any signs of leaks in and around your dishwasher

Lift and spin your dishwasher arm to make sure it spins freely

The Sink - Check your faucets, if they are leaking they may need a new washer

Check underneath the sink for any leaks. Lines to the faucets, icemaker, dishwasher

Turn on the disposal and listen to make sure it is not binding

The Stove - Check burners to make sure they turn on and off easily. If you have a gas stove make sure, the flame burns an even blue in color.

The Oven - Check oven door gasket for wear, if worn replace. If it is a gas, turn on the gas broiler to make sure it lights properly.  Check to see if the gas shut-off value is working properly.

Cabinet Doors - Check pulls, tighten any loose screws. Make sure hinges are secured.

Refrigerator - clean behind, pull off the front plate, and clean underneath. (Now this will take some doing but it will certainly help with the life of your refrigerator) Use your vacuum cleaner tool for hard to reach places.

Light Fixtures - Clean your light fixture; replace bulbs with Energy Saving Bulbs. If you have a ceiling fan, clean and wipe off blades. If the blades look like they wobble (I tape a coin to the blade, it is usually just enough weight to stop the wobble).

    Howdy there Carl and Ceil

Carl, my friend - it sure does help ones refrigerator have a longer life, if folks will just take the time to clean behind it and under it. By doing this, it also helps the air in the home also. Your sure also right about tapen a coin to the blade of the a ceiling fan, it sure does help to stop a wobble. I have also found that by waxing the blades of a ciling fan, that it helps the air movement.

Dale I've used the coin but have never used the wax but it stands to reason it would help.

What Ceil does with the refrigerator she takes one of her empty gift wrap tubes and tapes it to the end of her vac. cleaner hose, tha way she can get way back in there once the front face panel at the bottomis removed. You have to be careful taking that off and putting it back on, those little plastic holders that keep it attached can break easily.

    Howdy there Carl and Ceil

Ceil sure did come up with a real good idea, using a gift wrap tube, in order to get to the back area under the refrigerator. I'll have to remember that. Carl mybe you could make an attachment in your work shop, for folks to use, that would work along the lines of the gift wrap tube, and patten it.

Sounds like a good idea. Maybe when I retire I'll have some time to play around if somebody doesn't come up with it first. I'm going to log off; I'm running late tonite.

Whenever I had a wobbling ceiling fan, I would either fix it or buy a new ceiling fan, both of which took time and/or cost money. Next time I'm going with the coin taping; far less time and far less money, as long as I don't have to use an 1869 $20 gold piece -- LOL.

Russell it has always worked for me. Just a little weight will help with the balance.

I like the coin idea. I was in Russell's camp, where I would spend to much time working on the fan or just end up getting a new one.

Troy it works, sometime you just need to get the blade back in balance.
