(not so) Wordless Wednesday - Saying Good Bye to Summer...

As the chill of the first tinges of autumn settle into the middle Tennessee valley, I am filled with mixed emotions as I say good bye to summer and say hello to autumn. The flurry of activity at the humming bird feeder has waned. The feeder now only sees an occasional straggler making its way southward and warmer weather. Realizing that this might be the last hummer I will see this year, I stopped to take this shot. As she flew off into the cool evening, I waved good bye saying good bye to summer...

Fall has been settling here in CT now for a few weeks. I once saw a hummer in my yard. A rare sight unless you have a feeder.

Michael, I have mixed emotions at this time of year, too.  It's my favorite season with cool days and the beautiful fall colors, but I know winter is coming soon.  It's beautiful with the snow but it's a lot of work, here where we live - shoveling, plowing, scraping.

Great shot Michael.

I love this time of year!

Cool crisp nights.

Humid free days.

I'm ready for the change, the crispness of the fall and the smell of burning wood and Tobacco barns, "it's Football Time Tennessee", as John Ward would say.

It can be tough capturing a humming bird. They are quick little buggers. As for summer... I was ready to say goodbye. I love the cooler weather.

I had a few hummingbirds buzzing around me yesterday afternoon but I would imagine they will be MIA soon too.

Michael: As I sat on the patio yesterday afternoon, after work, I notice that many of the regulars at my feeders are gone. I too, love to watch the sweet little birds and will also miss them. You had a great idea to take a few last pictures. I think I will do that today, before they are all gone for the summer.

Beautiful Michael.  Summer is leaving us and I feel like we were a bit shortchanged this year.  I hope we have an extended Autumn to make up for it cause Winter just doesn't do much for me anymore.  Have a good one.

I haven't seen a Hummer this week. I don't know if it's the cold, or just that time of year. Either way, my feeders are showing no activity right now.
