After I got done kicking the wall and trying to figure where did my traffic go?  I wrote 78 blogs in September, Linked my *ss off, but my traffic numbers where down 10%.  It can't be me.  All of those Colorado Home Buyers (first dates) must have run for the hills.  Oh, that's right, I just blogged yesterday that our under contract activity for the office is up over 50% for September and is the best September we have had in 5 years.

I have not dated in years, since I am happily married, but the web seems to encompass all of the traits of a blind date.  The user types in their criteria, and the search engine recommends the best matches for what they are looking for.  My initial sense was we just aren't the best match anymore.  I am sure once a person visits us, our stimulating conversation and natural good looks will keep them coming back for more.

So, I decided to look in the mirror, in this case Google Analytics, to see where have all my dates have gone:

What, we are actually getting more visitors or first dates.  The problem is once a person gets to our site they do not come back.  What about our good looks?  What about all of our great stuff?  What about my "it is all about me" page?  Didn't you see my special featured listings?  What, you want me to provide you the information you were looking for?  You want me to ask you questions and respond within five minutes?  You want my content to match your preferences?  Man, this dating stuff is hard.

I guess it is time to start working on the other leg of the chair, and be sure we are providing the content and value the consumer is looking for.  Right now we are getting  dates, but for some reason they are not returning our desperate phone calls.  In fact, what's that, they left a wrong number?

Hi John ~ Amusing post, it's absolutely tipping down here this morning so this was a great pick me up. I feel your frustration though, figuring out how real estate works online isn't easy. I've thought about the registering idea, because many agents here on AR seem to have success with it. Can't seem to get past myself on that one though - I just hate signing up for anything myself and will go elsewhere for information when asked.

Statistics tell us that Internet buyers start looking way before they're ready to actually do anything. It wouldn't surprise me if all your visitors decided to move at the same time and all of a sudden you're inundated with calls and emails.

That's the way it works, don't you think? Everyone has the same idea at the same time and the phone's ringing off the hook... A bit like when you head for the cash register at the supermarket. One minute you look and there's no queue, next minute there are 5 customers in line!
